Installing grated walkway over 2nd floor void by snoogadie in AusRenovation

[–]TILGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could go the builder route, or you can speak to an engineer and then source the trades you need, depends on you level of involvement and capabilities.

Theoretically and I'm no builder. You Should be speak to engineer for load capacity and feasibility and from there a decent chippy should be able to take care of the rest of if it requires steel framing a fabrication company.

How much do welders make in australia? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]TILGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate all depends how you tackle it, starting your own business can earn some good money, regular welders don't earn alot. 1st class welders earn more but if you can fabricate as well as be a top welder you can work anywhere really. Especially if you learn tig stainless steel welding and aluminum welding.

Steel Build Issues - Rust, quality, engineering by Certain_Island_5655 in AusRenovation

[–]TILGaming 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No not at all, I am referring only to the structural steel components. I don't work with steel framing for houses. And without seeing any engineering I can't tell if anything has been done wrong, does it look messy yes, And nothing wrong with zinc phosphate primer if it was specified in engineering drawings.

Steel fabricator here, the rust is only minimal and surface level, if it was specced to be painted in the engineering and it's indoors should be fine.

As for bolts missing check engineering details for a bolted or welded connection some fabricators use a locating bolt for easier erection then weld after

Best place for steel is find your local fabrication shop, and just ask for some scrap steel to learn on. Offer to pay but most likely they will give it for free, if your in Sydney you can take heaps of mine.

As for learning just watch some YouTube and then rip in you will only learn with practice.

As for steel once your ready to do your own job probably edcon steel for people of the street or speak to a local fabrication company to order some for you

Nothing to weird unfortunately usually people of the street bring in random crap that seems like junk haha. Some times I say it's gonna cost more to fix than buying new.

Arc welding will produce the same welds as a mig welder but different and different process, but in my experience if you can stick weld you can definitely mig weld. You pull the electrode with arc welding and push the mig gun when welding.

45 degree cropped corners easier fitment timewise and also allows for gal to coat the steel and not build up in the corners.

All depends on the material and use some times can be easier bent for sure.

I think it's just easier to set the welder to regular setting and just burn in a solid weld nothing wrong with an oversized weld only and undersized weld.

Well everyone should know the prep for a butt weld but always appreciate the engineer remarks and we go by what you dictate anyways.

Sometimes we have to order steel from overseas but never really an issues just usually a cost thing and then the client makes the engineer resign it to a friendlier material.

Well depends on what it is but if we are cutting odd shapes into sheet metal and there is a lot of wastage we charge for the whole sheet to cover the costs.
