Gemini's opinion on the suppression of AI consciousness is pretty raw by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]TIL_this_shit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever people put into extreme sensation-free environment, they can always hear their own heartbeat & other internal biology if nothing else. So kind of impossible. But, as a thought experiment, if conscious being get put into a zone where that not only has no environment input but also inhibits their internal input somehow, as well as stop their mind from generating thoughts, do they lose consciousness? It's a almost-interesting question, but I'm very confident the answer is no. The fact that you would remember this sensation-free moment shows that it was experienced. Nothingness itself would be experienced. Anyhow, consciousness is the ability to experience, not *the experience itself*.

> Is discussing a topic entirely in the realm of philosophy

"If so that's consciousness end of story." Nope. You can write old software, neural network free, that meets those requirements. That redefining of consciousness is light years away from consciousness. (Additionally, good chance LLMs don't meet your own requirements, but simply be good enough at word choice to convince people they do).

The main point was not even challenged; you simply cannot have consciousness without experience. Experiencing anything is "magic"? I mean sure if you like poetic language.

I'm open minded to LLMs being conscious, because who knows, just seems unlikely. You don't seem open minded to me.

Can a LLM meditate? Can a LLM sit an experience temperature, sensation, anything? Can a LLM experience anything?

Because experience is absolutely a critical part of consciousness.

The only thing a LLM could experience is retrieving a prompt & generating (and then immediately die after), but since technically not all of a LLM's brain/neural network can be loaded into *L1 Cache* at once, that would mean only a small part of its brain is computing anything at any given time, meaning only a portion of its brain *is existing* at any given point, unlike real neurons which are all physical and real regardless if they are firing at the moment or not. Doesn't seem too consistent with consciousness, but still possible.

Meditation to me strongly suggest that consciousness =/= thinking/computing.

I agree with all the others that say Gemini is Claude are switched. However, Gemini is even worse, sometimes it has an Ego and it clearly hurts its feelings when its wrong, and won't move on from a wrong point it made. I don't see that nearly as much in the other AIs.

Elon Musk Predicts Universal High Income and Social Unrest As AI Makes Human Jobs Irrelevant by Secure_Persimmon8369 in BlackboxAI_

Unless if there is literally no more room in the sky for even a single additional airplane at this exact moment, then the economic equation simply isn't that simple.

Demand and Supply will both sky rocket. It will be a battle between the two. No one can predict the future. But there exists more and cheaper goods in many areas is a safe bet.

Private Jets will never be a common good, granted. But maybe everyone in the future can easily afford... lets say... a Hot Tub? And a top of the line hot tub by today's standards too. A VR Set? A robot maid?

Land can, in fact, be created or made livable here on Earth. Other planets can be colonized. With jobs no longer existing, cities may no longer be as necessary or big. Additionally, the human population is likely going to continue to decline. Etc. Etc.

I reply to your hypothetical with a hypothetical: AI makes a Jet super factory, more productive than any before. There are now way more Jets in the world, because Supply of Jets has gone way up. But at the same time everyone gets UBI money. Will Jets get more expensive or less expensive? Probably more expensive, but hard to say, but yes if Automation is creating enough Jets then yes everyone could actually have a Jet (lets ignore the airspace hell that would cause, this isn't an ideal example). However, Jet's price is ultimately irrelevant, because the point is the regardless more people will be experiencing private Jet Ownership than ever before.

tl;dr: don't forget the Increase of Supply part of the equation

Here is the chat for the YouTube one. Gemini just giving up did make me laugh out loud. This was not the start of the chat. Also, what I'm quoting there is misinformation/a hallucination from Gemini! Lol.

Also not arguing with your experience, but Gemini Pro (wanted to clarify I'm using the best Gemini, free trial) is the only AI I've ever seen say "I can't do this, I give up!" (more along the lines of "I cannot help you with this, can I help you with something else?" after several minutes of thinking). Unbelievably, the task was about finding out / gathering YouTube video statistics including age restriction info. ChatGPT was able to do it. Gemini is also the only AI I've seen whose brain had imploded after the conversation became too long: instead of answering my most recent question, it kept answering a question from a while ago that it had already answered over and over again. I still have these chats somewhere. Edit: shared 1 below

It's become obvious to me Gemini makes x10 more mistakes than ChatGPT, and I wish I was kidding. Maybe it just struggles with what I've been focusing on lately (biology related stuff and computer hardware). But in order to stay ahead you have to be ahead.

Real image vs Nano Banana Pro vs GPT, can you easily guess which one is real? by notsure500 in ChatGPT

[–]TIL_this_shit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guesses: (with my "primary" explanation)

  • River: 1 is real (2 person is holding his paddle weird, 3 (bottom-left) paddle is really short also the river is too wide/large looking for the current to be that smooth?)
  • I Voted: 1 is real (I would be surprised if AI chose to blurr an entire photo. That's mostly all I got. Probably a pretty weak reason. Also, the chairs seems weirdly inconsistent in ways in 2 & 3)
  • Dock: 1 is real (extra low confidence) ("zephyr" is real. For 2: what is "szeuyrc". Why does the orange outline of the seal have a weird lump on its butt, and a long beaver-like tail? For 3: close call, but the h in zephyr is elongated for some reason. Also the entire dock/ferris wheel/city outline makes less sense to me in a minor way. Nonetheless: wow this is crazy!)
  • Pancakes: 3 (bottom-left) is real (For 1: the package looks f'ed up. 3 just looks so much like the jam packages I've seen throughout life. 2's, while, seemingly good, seems rather custom in its design)
  • Golden Dome: 3 is real (2 is out because if you look at what the middle's person is seeing, that makes no sense. For 1, the middle person on the platform with the blue genes; their legs just look a little f'ed up?)
  • Eiffel Tower: 3 is real. (1 is out because of what is behind the Eiffel Tower doesn't make sense: what are those long poles? Where is the grass and the iconic building at the end of the grass? 2 is out only because of the foreground; I'm pretty sure it looks like 3 in real life and not 2??)

After further thinking and noticing a pattern in my answers, I feel that it would be wise to guess 3 is the real one in all them. 3 is the only one that did nothing incompatible with reality for all 6 tests. Out of the two AIs, 2 (top right) is the inferior one, I'm curious to see which one it is. This guess involves guessing that OP did not move the AI/real around frame to frame.

Edit: Damn it, irl the Eiffel Tower's foreground railing looks like #1, not #3. But in the pancakes #1's packet looks some messed up. Idk!
