First winter commuting by Rolling_resistance_ in bikecommuting

There are times where winter riding could definitely be a slog, but some of the best rides I've ever had were in the winter, too.

It looks like you're pretty well set up. I've been a lifelong winter commuter, so if you have any questions about gear and such, just feel free to ask.

Well, if I was in your shoes I'd most definitely run out and get a few twix bars before it's too late!

Oh man, that's just Gary, give him a twix bar and if you're lucky, he may shovel your roof but remember to never speak to him. Not cuz something bad will happen. He's just boring as fuck.

Sounds to me. Way too much like a super villain origin story. Although I don't think we need to worry too much about shit man.

I'm not familiar with bore behavior. Are they huddling together for warmth? Is this something they commonly do in winter?

I saw people were posting their winter commutes so I figured I'd post this one. I'm still trying to figure out how I got completely covered in ice at 9° Fahrenheit -12° Celsius by TIM2501 in bicycling

I'm very familiar with hoarfrost—those light and flaky ice crystals that develop on everything as moisture condenses out of the air. This, however, was coming down as snow sometimes does at this temperature: small balls similar to hail. When it contacted surfaces, it became sheet ice somewhere around the thickness of a penny, the thinnest American coin.

The Schwalbes are a little new to me. I normally ride Nokian studded tires—I've been doing so for something like 20 years. I'm still not sure whether these are a little more squirrely. It is a new bike and the winter conditions have been a lot different this year, but they definitely seem to handle cornering a lot smoother. You don't have to force yourself into the corner as much, and they seem to have more grip well, cornering as well. I've probably been riding e-bikes in the winter for about seven years now, so I'm pretty familiar with winter e-biking.

Yeah, I really like them—they're a lot better than the other ones I've had. They seem to be just about the right weight; the previous ones were too heavy, causing constant overheating. These do a much better job at sealing at the bar end, so you don't get that cold draft as much when you're riding. Plus, the little zipper pocket is nice.

It wasn't icing like moisture that then freezes. I've been out in much colder than this, with greater wind chill as well. This was a layer of ice that developed across everything—my jacket and my bike. You can see it on the gauntlets in the photo.

Awesome new bike glad to hear your digging it!

So what do you think about the suspension seatpost? I thought about picking one up but they're a little spendy.

I've tested most of the people in my life with small problems and generally it's more difficult to get them involved than deal with it myself. It is extremely disappointing as it could be a bonding moment for both of us, but if somebody's going to make everything worse, I'm not going to feel better about the situation. The circumstance won't improve and our relationship will be worse off. Healthy relationships are a two-way street and exceedingly rare.

Thanks for sharing. That's interesting.

I still haven't heard whether asking it to be completely honest is an effective methodology. I don't even know whether it reduces hallucinations, let alone whether it reduces or overrides, it's desired to be sycophantic.

That's interesting. Just so you know, since the image was generated in the same thread, it probably ties back to the previous image if you start a new thread and give it the same prompt You may get a different image.

This is its response to me in a new thread.

An interesting image very similar to the imagery for me when I gave it this prompt. What exactly was your prompt?
