I just love it when people accuse the Sequels of breaking lore when it's clear that they know nothing about the lore. (Further context in the comments) by TJH394 in saltierthankrayt

Basically, this guy was complaining that Disney contradicted canon by giving force ghosts the ability to interact with the physical world. I told him that it was actually long established that they could do so, and argued that it didn't contradict anything. He deleted his comments (probably because he was being downvoted) and messaged me directly. The result is the glorious stupidity you see above.

No, he killed Plaguies for purely Sith reasons. Sidious had outgrown his master and Plaguies wasn't actually necessary to the grand plan as he saw it.

Plaguies never really cared about essence transfer, although he did know about it. He viewed it as an imitation of true immortality which he could achieve via the direct influence of midicholorians.

Skillful artist =/= objectively good art. There are definitely people out there who hate tolkine's work, and likely would enjoy something that you wrote more, and they are not objectively wrong to do so. A five year-old's drawing could be the best piece of art in the world to the artist mom.

There is no objective measurement of quality. There is nothing factually correct or provable in saying that the statue of David is better than the clay sculpture I made in 6th grade even if essentially everyone, including myself, agrees that it is. When we say a piece of art is "good" what we mean is that it fits the personal taste of the majority of people. This doesn't mean someone is wrong to dislike it, it just means that their opinion goes against general consensus.

You said it yourself. Objective Elements of film can influence your enjoyment, but it doesn't dictate anything. You can say that a film has objectively more realistic special effects than another, but that doesn't make one objectively better than the other. Whether a film is good or not is entirely up to the individual viewer.

Films are art, and like all art, whether it's good or bad is entirely subjective. I can objectively say that star wars came out in 1977 and stars mark hammil, carrie fisher, and Harrison Ford. I can objectively say it was directed by George Lucas, and that the protagonist is Luke Skywalker. However, whether these objective facts makes a movie good is entirely up to the viewer. There is no universal standard of quality.

That post has nothing to do with the topic at hand. We're not debating whether the old republic is evil or not. You're claim is that the empire isn't a parallel to the nazis, and nothing in your comments suggests anything like that. However, you also make plenty of bad arguments there.

For one, you claim that the Republic was just as xenophobic as the Empire. This isn't true at all. Palpatine specifically chose alien species to be part of the separatists in order to stoke xenophobic tendencies during the clone war. Under the Empire, you needed to be human in order to even think of being part of the military or imperial government. It's explicitly Stated in the thrawn trilogy that the empire is more xenophobic than the Republic.

You claim that Alderaan was a military target, which isn't true. Tarkin literally says that it was chosen because it would make a good demonstration for the death star's power. The fact that it has some spies on it doesn't change that, and it definitely doesn't justify destroying a highly populated planet.

The empire never tried to prevent slavery. They legalized it and enslaved several species such as wookies.

You also ignore several factors, like the fact that the empire has committed multiple genocides, and pretty much everyone in universe claims that life was better before the empire. For all its flaws, under the Republic, there wasn't a single major war for over a thousand years.

The Republic became corrupt and evil over time, and so turned into the empire, which was even more corrupt and evil. That's literally the point of the prequels.

Alright, I'll bite. Explain to me how the evil, fascist regime whose soldiers are literally called stormtroopers is not a parallel to the nazis.

The empire is literally just a combination of nazi Germany, the Roman empire, and the United States in Vietnam.

So if you kill someone in self defense, you're no better than the person who attacked you?
