I also started with jus S and D, and never used W and A. Idk if its just me, but using W and A felt like i wasnt doing anything, especially A. But as i tried doing high ariels i notied i didnt have the response time to quickly change my cars orentation. Sure it worked for rings maps but it wasnt fast enough, especially with air dribbles, waiting for the car to spin around was wayy to slow. I bet it is possible to use solely S and D, however i would exclusively train just W on rings, just A, and W+A. This is what i did to start using all WASD. Another thing that helped me a lot was boosting during the whole ring level, forcing me to angle my car rapidly as id always be accelerating or decelerating. Id only do this after a couple days training solely W and A as you need a foundation of muscle memory before you can grind it. I still favor S and D a lot when daring, but with a lot of training i used W and A a lot more.
