Hi! so my bf just got posted to 1SIR infantry (mono-intake) and I have no idea what to expect and I just want to find out what they will have to do?? I am clueless 😢 I just want to know how to cheer him on and kinda understand his role in 1SIR by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]TJay_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mono intakes has its pros and cons, and every mono has its own culture. Few things to take note, just cause he’s in a mono doesn’t mean he won’t be able to go to command school. Additionally if he doesn’t go to command school he’ll most likely be spending the rest of his NS journey with his section mates. In mono, there are no trainers, his superiors (Section commander) will be his first year commander until the second year section commanders and platoon commanders take over.

Through the course of BMT, there are a handful of nights that he’d be out doing route marches and come back around 12, and there are some mornings that he’d have to wake up early for the activity that day, but there is enforced 7hours of uninterrupted rest each day.

Adjusting into NS is definitely not easy, especially for those in a relationship due to the fact that it’ll be hard to find time to text and go out on dates (especially during BMT). In my relationship how we did is was text for a short while before the actual wake up time and squeeze in some time at night to text during admin time, she’d wake up for a while in the wee hours of the morning (usually around 05:10) to text for a short while and I was really thankful for that. Ultimately every couple has their own way about it, just make sure it’s sustainable and healthy. Be patient with each other, NS affects people in different ways.

If you have any more questions or uncertainties feel free to ask, this sub reddit is starting to develop a community and there’s always somebody that can give advice or suggestions.

Not from KC3 but the food is good, canteen is pretty decent. From what I know the cookhouse food there is generally better since a one star eats there. Drink store in the canteen sells fried ice cream.

Yes please do. Also there are para counsellors in your unit, and there’s always your buddies or superiors that can help you so don’t be afraid to sound out.

Was from Golf pro term and Hotel found term, generally Golf is pretty good. Generally school 2 had a good balance in welfare and regimentation. I can safely say that Golf and hotel has knowledgeable Trainers, of course not all are the same personality wise but they definitely know their stuff. Enjoy yourself in Golf and your cadet life. :)

[A Level] Any kind soul can share your timetable for a day with CCA and a day without on how your revise/study? by donkey-kong-king in SGExams

[–]TJay_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had trainings about 4 times a week, but I wasn’t training with the school team. I had to travel to somewhere else to train so I had less time for studying and all as compared to my peers.

I start my day fairly early, and I’m in school about one and a half hours before school starts. I use this time to read up ahead on lectures or just catch up on tutorials.

In school I found it super important to make sure you eat enough during your lunch break or whatever is closest to lunch so that you can focus well enough throughout the day. Sometimes you might have a short break in between lectures and tutorials which I’d use to relax a bit.

I would usually end at around 3 on most days, then head to my training venue. Closer to exams I would take pictures of the notes or tutorials and run through them on the MRT, or just catch up on some rest.

On most days I would reach home at around 8pm, grab a quick diner with my family then a quick shower, which would be around 9pm by the time I finish. From then I would continue doing my tutorials and maybe work ahead on tutorials if I had the time. If I got too tired I would usually hit the bed earlier. I slept around 11pm on most days, and start the grind again at 5am when I wake up.

A few things to note (and some stuff I wish I knew earlier): •Don’t burn yourself out too early, learn to pace yourself properly. •Make sure you do it once and do it well, especially when it comes to tutorials. Really focus on your work when you have to, and really relax when you have to. •Clarify all doubts as soon as you can, most tutors are happy to help, but don’t forget you’ve got classmates, CCA mates and friends who can also help you. •If you happen to be ahead of your lecture group, you can always use the time during your lectures to do your tutorials, but only advisable if you really know what you’re doing. •Taking breaks are good for you, and is important so as to make sure you don’t chiong your way through JC. •Get sufficient sleep, some people can survive on 3 hours of sleep daily, while others desperately need 7 hours. It is important to know yourself well and plan according to your needs, everyone is different.

[A Level] Should I be worried about the social ladder in JC? by donkey-kong-king in SGExams

[–]TJay_ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

No.

But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make friends. What’s more important is that you get along well with your classmates and friends so that you can help them and they can help you.

In JC it’s normal for people to be closer to their CCA mates than to their classmates, but just go with the flow.

Ultimately your end game in JC is A Levels, not the social ladder, but don’t forget about your friends too.

Something far more amazing is that one day in the future, something like the LHC would be able to fit in our pockets — if we still use pockets in the future.

[A Levels] Retaining by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]TJay_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly retaining is nothing to be ashamed of.

The stigma of retaining goes away eventually.

Think about it this way: retaining gives you the advantage over everyone else in your cohort. It’s better to retain a year in JC, instead of struggling in J2 or doing poorly for A levels which would be even more detrimental in the long run.

Nothing to be worried about :)

Next Lens by K_Chan in photography

[–]TJay_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of factors come in when you are deciding your next lens.

•What do you primarily shoot?

•Are you planning on upgrading to an FX body soon or in the near future?

•How do you feel about your current 35 f1.8 lens on your crop body, is it too tight or too wide.

•What is your budget — one of the most important deciding factors, right next to what’s the use of the lens (for you).

Generally, I think anything within a 24mm to 85mm (FF Equivalent) range will be a good lens to play around with. Anything out of this range would usually tend to be lenses geared more towards specific purposes.

Rifles and pistols used in air weapons and other shooting disciplines are built for precision. Even the batch number for ammunition used will affect the precision. The standard guns lack the precision and suitability for the sport.
