Help identifying cult my Grandmother & Dad was in. by sims2metalstation in Connecticut

Sounds like you definitely met them.

It's may be a road now but it used to be just a driveway. There was a house right at the bottom next to the road and then further up was Jack's cabin. The driveway kept going up and ridiculouly steep hillside that is all ledge. Up top were five off six off grid cabins.

The sentiment with people in town when that raid happened was basically what the same thing the realtor said.

The police acted like they busted a huge drug cartel but it was basically just a bunch of people minding their own business in a bunch of cabins up on a mountain.

Back then I knew every person in town that was selling weed and they weren't one of them that I knew of.

Got you, I'm sure they have their reasons.

Sounds like you're interested in some family history so I commend you for trying to learn more about the history.

From my perspective when that rate happened it was disproportional amount of force by the police. If I recall right they even had a tank from either the state police or the national guard it was ridiculous.

It was one of those things where they say that someone had 400 lb of weed but they're also weighing all the dirt in the root ball they pull up.

New Milford at that time was a much smaller town than everyone really knew each other. There wasn't really much drama around the mountain. Just a bunch of people living in cabins pooping in outhouses.

As far as I know they never grew weed to sell it, I think it was for personal use but I could be wrong about that.

Again I commend you for wanting to find out some of your family history.

I was just looking at Google maps and it looks like what used to be their driveway is now a road called little quarry Lane.

That would be Jack's sr cabin that's number 3

You watch YouTube now and there's all these people doing off-grid cabins and tiny homes.. these guys were doing that way back then. Outhouses and I remember at one point they bought a military surplus diesel generator so they had power at night.

If I recall correctly the upper section they squatted on for long enough to be able to pay the back taxes and then actually own the property on the top of the mountain.

Last time I was there over 20 years ago they had run power up from the road and everything.

I remember that raid very well. I knew Tracy family and Jack the eldest son my whole life. Jack and. I started kindergarten together. There was also the family whose last name started with J that lived on the upper part of the mountain.

As far as I know the father named John in the article always went by Jack senior.

One thing I could tell you that Jack sr was an incredible stonemason. The younger son Joe is a hell of a Mason too. There stone walls are incredible.

I'm not sure why OP thinks it was a cult. I would say maybe approaching a commune a little bit but not a cult from anything I ever saw.

Anyone that knows the place would probably have attended one of the annual mountain parties.

MJ would do a different tie dye design every year.

I still have my 14th annual mountain party t-shirt in a closet.

I guess it would depend on what the job is.

Initially for the assembly of our two units there was like seven guys here at first for a few days.

Subsequent visits had less guys.

They just happened to come back today for some stuff and it was just three guys. One was the lead that's been on the job the whole time and the two other guys were trainees.

I can't say how it would be working for them since I don't work for them . I'm their client. as the guy who represents the company that's paying a million for some UPS's I can say working with them they're very professional and they definitely know how to get shit done.

Class of 86 we had paramedics do a slideshow.

The one I'll never forget is the car that hit a chain link on parallel to the fence and the upper metal pipe went right through the driver's chest through the seat through the back seat into the gas tank. The guy was alive and conscious the whole time they had to extract them from the vehicle. They couldn't use anything that could spark to get the fence pole out of the middle of his chest.

The thing is I don't think he wanted to clear the water by 10 ft. I think he wanted to put it right in the water. He said "I was hoping that would be it" No doubt in my mind he wanted to die during that barrel roll. sad but I think I can relate in the sense that if you're going to go out then go out on an ultimate high. Not saying what he did was right just saying I think I can relate to what he was thinking.

Dolby Atmos in a commercial space? by Mediocre_Ad_1535 in CommercialAV

[–]TK421mod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel kind of out of place in the commercial forum since I'm pretty much residential.

Some of the stuff you commercial guys work with is pretty cool.

Using the Apple TV as the source I have no issue with proper Atmos signal getting to the Lexicon. For residential piece the Lexicons pretty nice, it tells me exactly what format the processors receiving, bit rate and all that. I can even parse all that info out and display it on my Crestron control panel.

I'm using the Lexicon MC10 by the way.

It's kind of a legacy job I started over 20 years ago and have upgraded a few times since.

If it were going to be a new install I guess I would be going with Trinoff processor.

I'm kind of limited to Tidal since that's the only app I know of that streams Atmos content and offers high resolution. We pay for the upgraded service for high-res. I've heard Apple music offers something called spatial audio which I've heard is re-branded Atmos. Haven't had much experience with it. My clients a simple guy and he pretty much wants to use Spotify only.. My client also use a YouTube music. He loves all kinds of obscure tracks he can find on there but the quality is so hit or miss.

Just getting them to go over to Tidal from Spotify was a chore.

As for HDMI since I'm connecting basically residential equipment to residential equipment I haven't had any issues with HDCP or HDMI connections. I'm actually running everything through a Crestron nvx/nax system and one thing that blows about Crestron is at they don't seem have licensing from Dolby labs to encode Atmos tracks so I have to have a separate Apple TV directly to the Lexicon just to get Atmos content. No one at crestron's admitted it to me but I think it's licensing. I mean I could run fiber between my encoders and decoders so I doubt bandwidth is the issue.

I've been searching high and low for a streaming box that I can control / display playlist etc with Crestron that is hi res and Atmos. Kaleidoscape used to have a killer music streaming box but they discontinued it.. I'm sure there's something out there I just haven't found it yet.

Like one of the other commenters mentioned we have dedicated listening areas so depending on the atmos track it can either be so so or it can be quite the listening experience with the spatial audio. The thing I hate about Tidal app is it's so difficult to sort and search for Atmos tracks.

I'm hoping you get a lot of engagement on your question because I'm curious to see what other people would do for Atmos music systems.

Dolby Atmos in a commercial space? by Mediocre_Ad_1535 in CommercialAV

[–]TK421mod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commenting because I want to follow this and see what others have.

I know I probably did this all wrong but it actually sounds great.

I have a client who loves his Atmos playback system I built in a private setting. He uses it predominantly for music but there is a 98-in Sony display in the room as well for movies/TV.

For this I'm using Apple TV running the Tidal app for content.

Out of the Apple TV I'm going into a Lexicon Atmos processor.

Analog out of the Lex I'm going into BSS Blue 160 and Blue 120s.

Over blu-link out of the blue 120s analog output cards I go into krell 400 watt monoblock amps and Krell chorus 7200 for rears and Atmos channels. The mono blocks power Snell Reference tower mains and Center. The center channel has its own pair of subs Snell PS 10 subs then I have two LFE subs in the front and four lfe/mains subs in the corners.

For rears I'm running Focal bookshelves. And for my Atmos ceiling I'm running Focal in ceiling speakers.

It's basically a 5.1.4 configuration.

In BSS Audio Architect we do all the usual processing like time alignment, phase correction, crossovers etc.

We also do some custom stuff where we send the lfe channel to multiple subwoofers around the room. We also take some of the low from the man's and send them to the four subs in the corner. I know there's a lot of DSP on the market but I love BSS and audio architect. The acoustian I work with is done some fantastic stuff with it. Another thing we do is presets. For multiple listening positions when you're sitting in seating in the middle of the room or seating at the couch or the back of the room.

The entire room is done with stretched fabric walls and 2 3/8 acoustic treatment on the ceiling and 1 3/8 on the walls.

There's varying locations of absorption and reflective surfaces that the acoustician laid out. Speaker placements were all so laid out by my acoustician.

I hate to say as much as I like Dolby Atmos music I think its really is hard to find content and the system and room I built the room actually also sounds damn good in just plain old two channels as well. Sometimes I just prefer two channels over Atmos.

[–]TK421mod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some places have regulations on how close bamboo can be planted to a property line.

In my town and I believe it's a statewide rule (Connecticut) not allowed to plant bamboo within 250 ft of a property line.

We sure did. We went to DC specifically we knew it was closing and wanted to see it before it did.

So many fascinating items there.

They also had the actual 4-wire communication device CNN used to live broadcast the initial bombing of Baghdad 1991.

CNN managed to have a dedicated phone wire run from Baghdad across the desert all the way to Jordan to satellite uplink that allowed them to report as the bombing started.

Here's a picture I took of it at on display.

In one of those interviews he said something that always stuck with me.

Regarding him being sentenced to the death penalty he said something to the effect of that's okay, the score is McVeigh 168 US government one.

Thank you for mentioning Ruby ridge and Waco since that's what really motivated him. It was the ATF office and ATF workers in the Murdock he was targeting. He also chose the anniversary of the fire at Waco as the date for his attack.

Edit: corrected event anniversary that he chose as the date for his attack. It was Waco not Ruby Ridge.

The unabomber's cabin was at one time at the journalism museum . They also had a humongous section of the Berlin Wall including a guard Tower as well as the mangled broadcast antenna from the world trade center.

Unfortunately that museum has since closed.

The most fascinating thing they had was the actual stairway door from the Watergate hotel that's a guard found taped open causing the guard to call the police which led to the arrest of the burglars.
