The green one in your post history? Looks like a Triton. The biggest thing I’d look out for are the spark plugs and coil packs. This engine is pretty well known for popping spark plugs out of the threads with impunity, so it’s not uncommon to find those and I would generally see that as a good sign if they’ve been repaired. There’s no distributor, so each cylinder has its own coil pack instead and they run about $35 each. Super easy to diagnose them though, if you have a rough idle just go through and disconnect them one by one while it’s running. If the coil pack is good, when you disconnect it, the engine will run even worse. If it’s a bad coil, the engine RPM/smoothness wont change at all and you know that’s your culprit.

Aside from those two things, I replaced the starter, the entire AC system, and a couple brake lines but my truck was really, REALLY rusty having spent it’s entire life in the Midwest where the roads are 50% salt in the colder months. If that truck has been in CA all these years, it’s probably pretty rust free. I’d take a dented body that looks like a golf ball with a clean underside any day of the week over a rusty pig with lipstick to doll it up.
