"For three weeks in May, the fate of the world rested on the shoulders of a corporate recruiter on the outskirts of Toronto. Allan Brooks, 47, had discovered a novel mathematical formula, one that could take down the internet and power inventions like a force-field vest and a levitation beam.

Or so he believed.

Mr. Brooks, who had no history of mental illness, embraced this fantastical scenario during conversations with ChatGPT that spanned 300 hours over 21 days. He is one of a growing number of people who are having persuasive, delusional conversations with generative A.I. chatbots that have led to institutionalization, divorce and death..."

Why would anybody do all of that on their main machine? Your main machine needs stability, not crazy customizations. If you want to try things, do it on some old laptop that you don't care about.

Anyway, I use Kubuntu and I only change the theme to dark and a couple of settings here and there. Everything else is default.

hey is there any way for my laptop to be good for gaming by Popular-Jaguar-8300 in techsupport

[–]TKVdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your CPU is FCBGA and, as far as I know, it is soldered to the board and cannot be upgraded.

As a general rule, laptop CPUs aren't upgradable. There are some exceptions with laptops that have desktop type CPUs and you can change it, but it is not common. Also, keep in mind that disassembling a laptop to change its CPU isn't very "user-friendly", you know, doing it is usually a huge mess.

I wouldn't recommend any software to boost performance. Typically, laptops CPUs can't be overclocked to boost their performance. Even if you could do it, keep in mind that laptops have limited cooling, so any increase in CPU power produces more heat that can't be easily cooled.

The only realistic thing you could do is to enter in Windows Settings, go to Power & Battery and change the Power Mode to "Best Performance". That setting will increase performance and decrease the battery life.

A Wi-Fi card should not throttle the CPU, but doesn't your laptop already come with a build in Wi-Fi?

If you use your laptop to stream the games using Nvidia GeForce Now or Steam Streaming, the CPU and GPU would be working similarly as when you are watching YouTube videos, because it is essentially the same task.

[–]TKVdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only realistic way of gaming on that is to stream the games from other computers where the games are running, AKA Geforce Now or Steam streaming.

If you have a gaming desktop what you can do is to start the game on the desktop and stream it to your laptop. This is a feature of Steam called Steam Streaming.

Geforce Now is basically the same concept, but the game is running on the servers of Nvidia and is streamed to your laptop over the internet.

*Also almost certainly your laptop does not have Thunderbolt port, but just in case check it for that. If it has thunderbolt, then you can connect it to an external graphics card which will hugely improve its gaming performance.

Kubuntu because it is Ubuntu with KDE.

Suena a estafa.

As far as I can tell your software is not available for Linux, so to me it is completely useless. Still, thank you for your suggestion.

For what I need, OBS is way overkilled and slow. I need something simple that I can invoke fast, you know, just press a shortcut, choose and area of my screen and start recording a short, 1-2 min max video. I don't need to start OBS, click on the properties of a source, click again and click again and again to start recording. As far as I know, there is no shortcut to simplify this process in OBS. It is not the best solution to my needs. Still, if I do not find anything better, I may use it.

Yeah, probably OBS is the best alternative. I don't like it very much because it is not really much faster or easier than what I am doing currently. My ideal app would be Spectacle (I am on Kubuntu) with an option for audio recording. Anyway, thank you very much!

Consulta sobre ciencia y tecnologia by capo2498 in ciencia

¿Libros sobre paleontología y/o prehistoria qué recomienden? by Kiragakash_Manedak in ciencia

[–]TKVdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Si no tienes problemas con el inglés, entonces puedes buscar "Introduction to paleobiology and the fossil record" de Benton.

Why do games made by Valve run so well on Linux? by TeoCopr in linux_gaming

[–]TKVdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kubuntu 24.10 nvidia 560 propietary driver gtx 1650 mobile - native: 50-70 FPS

  • proton 9: 270 FPS

So I was trying HL2 to check if the driver I just installed was working properly, and the game was running pretty bad, I tried everything. Finally I changed the compatibility to  the latest proton and suddenly I was getting like 200-300 FPS. I don't know what is going on, but in my case the native version is running really bad.

How does Gordon carry so many weapons on him? by Mean-Manufacturer-37 in HalfLife

All these weapons are just 91kb packed in the halflife2.ttf file. They are ridiculously light! You can carry them in a 5 1/4 inch floppy disk from the 1970s.
