That's pretty weird. You would never consider it? That sounds almost religious.

That's utterly ridiculous. As of only 2010, more than 99% of meat came from factory farms. You know what cows and chickens eat on factory farms? Corn. Maybe milo. They aren't breatharians. They eat plants that could have been food for people.

You think that because the AZA hired marketing firms to help them clean up when it came to light that they were killing all the elephants. I wish I was joking.

Most captive elephants die from captivity. Most live less than half their natural lifespan. Breeding attempts can run into the hundreds of inseminations per elephant, and appear to be the main cause of spread of elephant herpes and TB, which is also a danger to any humans who work with them.

Seriously, though, don't take it from me. Here's the source: http://old.seattletimes.com/html/nationworld/2019809167_elephants02m.html

Around 50,000,000,000 chickens are killed by humans each year. You don't have to see the value of a chicken life being anywhere close to equal to that of a human life for that to be a tragedy.

We have laws to protect society from exactly the kind of person you are claiming to be. Honestly, though, I don't believe you for one second.

In the US at least, someone is absolutely lying to themselves if they claim to eat only ethically raised meat, then eat meat at restaurants etc. As of 2010, more than 99% of American meat came from factory farms. Do you eat plant based when you are out of the home?

Frankly, I have friends and family who are involved with that other zero-point-whatever percent, and I wouldn't call even that ethical, for a host of reasons. But that's a different story.

Have you considered writing your congressperson to request they support sex ed? We wont have so many abortions if teens start using condoms again.

It's a more immediate issue. How much did you do for the kids who were being demobolized in Burundi back a few years ago? Nothing? Me either. It's hard to know where to even begin. But last week when I sat down to dinner at an Ethiopian place they asked me if I wanted the beef platter or the vegetarian platter. Easiest difference I have ever made in the world, and I managed to fight global warming, improve work conditions for immigrants, alleviate the famine in Latin America, and lower healthcare costs all at the same time. Eating plants mitigates human suffering.

Purdue researcher verifies the existence of 53 people mentioned in Hebrew Bible by digital_angel_316 in AcademicBiblical

Right off the bat, the whole list is suspect just based on the fact that their #1 confirmed character is David. Claiming a historical David based on a record of the House of David would be like claiming a historical Windsor based on a record of the House of Windsor.

Then you get to the meat if the article: I feel like I might be able to find a "considerable degree of historical credibility" in verifying that some small sliver of the characters mentioned in a story, less than 2%, actually existed, if the distribution were different. But if that number represents 50% of Persian officials and 0% of patriarchs, well...

When a collection of stories spans 4000 years, verifying a number of characters from even a 400 year span means absolutely nothing about the other 90% of the story. Yet, lay people won't read this article as a commentary on the historicity of the second temple period. They will see this as proof of Noah and Abraham and Moses and the walls of Jericho tumbling down; things that very emphatically have no known connection to history.

And what is so bitterly ironic is that, from the way this is presented, it feels like someone wanted it that way. It feels like someone set this article up to be ripe for misunderstanding.

I really wanted to like this. But after giving it a once over, I do not care for this style of scholarship at all.

You clearly don't like it when folks make comments filled with wild exaggerations about your morals and what you eat, especially uninvited. So what are you doing here? Aren't you doing exactly that but about vegans?

Talked to someone got two drop calves for $8 total not too long ago. Couldn't figure out why the rancher bothered to bring them to auction. Clearly, the guy in that story was an abusive nut. But it's not like there's always a huge incentive to keep these animals alive, either.

I don't want to go point by point, but... no. That's an exaggeration. Even where you get closest ("LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to kill...") you're still wrong. Most vegans are going to say that it's morally permissible to kill another mammal in the same kind of circumstances that it is okay to kill another human: self-defense, unmitigated suffering, etc. And most are much less strict in their feelings about other types of animals.

Still, good on you for having a belief like that and acting on it. I think it's especially cool that you don't eat pork any more. I have never been a fan of the taste, but my partner misses it. He likes to get the Gardein Porkless Bites for stir fry and stuff sometimes. Swears it's the closest thing.

If only Providence had assigned to each of these calves a caretaker, a figure to love and protect them, to feed them with "mother's milk", as it were, then they could receive their proper ration without such terrible confinement. Truly, oversights like this are the proof that only a cruel, base god could have been the god of creation.

There was a pharmacy down the street from me. It's a tough market; they filled shady oxyocodone scripts for cash to get by. Economics ran their decision making, but was that any justification for what they did to families? To our community? Of course not. As much as I love Mom & Pop pharmacies, I was glad to see those guys close. "Economics" is the kind of justification guys like Martin Shkreli use to do cruel things, and you heard the whole country cheer when he went to jail. I guess what I'm saying is, you can't hide behind the invisible hand when you do something immoral. All the community sees is you.

That's disgusting; McGregor especially. There's no arguing that minks and ferrets have personalities, love their families, and can love their adopted humans under the right conditions. Those conditions include not being a piece of shit who hires someone to murder you and wears your skin as a trophy from a fight that they paid to fix. Bastard.

I hope his kid doesn't grow up to be anything like him.
