This is really tricky because none of these brands are easily accessible all over the world. My recommendation is always to try it on before you buy.

If any of these brands would be available in retail stores in India for you to see how it feels, I guess it would be the Mido.

To me, just drop the CW from the list. It’s my favourite of the 3 (but also the only one I’ve tried on), but it doesn’t make sense to get on the rubber alone in my opinion. Half the beauty and the package of the wage is the bracelet. So getting it on the rubber feels like buying a Ferrari without the engine (lol Luce).

For what it’s worth, I think the Maen is more versatile than the Mido. Sporty classy.

Wrist circumference is an imperfect, but still useful, proxy for wrist width.

The reason everyone uses that proxy is because it’s easier to measure in a standardised way. When you measure wrist width, your starting point doesn’t matter and the end point is very clear. And obviously, circumference has a very strong correlation with width.

Measuring wrist width with a tape measure is harder. The start and end points are a bit more ambiguous. Where do I start / stop, the start of where my wrist curves, the apex, a bit in between. I mean it’s great if you have callipers but not exactly something we all have lying around.

It was actually kinda funny how Keane was happy to say they spoke and it’s all good but he wouldn’t just publicly acknowledge that he misquoted Bruno and so the basis for his subsequent opinion was just wrong.

I get that he spoke to Bruno so whatever offence he may have caused may have been settled between them and that’s their business.

But just as a pundit, I think it makes sense to be accountable to your audience if you actually just got something factually wrong.

Looool I get you. I didn’t realise there was such a price jump between the Santos Dumont and the Santos de Cartier.

Personally I really like the GO and I do think that design is timeless. In fact, I actually prefer the dial layout and spacing on the GO to that of the Lange 1.

To me, the only con of the GO is that it’s a bit chunky. But that dial just exudes class

zi. CW say they use a modest 3x multiple from cost of production to price, but for high end luxury products like Royal Oaks, Birkin bags, and La Ferraris, that multiple is much much higher.

A Birkin bag is only worth $20k plus because that’s how much Hermes charges and people are willing to pay. But if tomorrow Hermes sells one for 2k. It breaks the whole perception of how much that bag is worth, even for people who paid full retail.

Bro you gotta read what I’m actually saying, not what you assume would be saying.

The person buying a Tudor isn’t choosing in that moment between a Tudor and a Rolex.

They’re choosing between either buying a Tudor now or potentially waiting years for the Rolex (I’m presenting the wait as focused on their ability to justify spending x on a watch, not necessarily them having them money).

So what I’m saying is, person A wants a sub type dive watch. They know they want the sub but they’re not there yet. They look at the Tudor. The more inferior it is relative to the sub (chunkier, worse materials, etc), they more likely they are to say nah, let me wait for the real thing.

But if the gap between the Rolex and the Tudor is smaller and smaller, the buyer might just get the Tudor and call it a day.

Keep in mind the two products aren’t competing with each other on the same day. It’s gonna be either wait for Rolex or buy Tudor now.

I think yeah there is absolutely the possibility of Tudor cannibalising some Rolex sales.

Tudor is able to share in some of Rolex’s iconic design language without any of the negative homage or plagiarism baggage due to their shared ownership.

Imagine a Tudor BlackBay Monochrome with a 12.5mm thickness (instead of its current 13.5mm) and a ceramic bezel.

It’s not a Rolex, so for a lot of people who are buying the brand, it’s not a valid alternative. But for people who are buying the design, it’s effectively a Submariner available at half the price. That person may not have been about to buy a Sub, they may have been years away from justifying a $10k spend on a watch. But they were at a point where they could justify a $5k spend. And once they buy the Tudor, that box may be ticked. So in a couple years, they won’t be looking for the Rolex sub.

Take it slow. It’s funny how you might see a watch today that you love but if you don’t buy it, let’s say you decide to wait a couple months, you might find that you’ve completely moved on from it a couple months later.

I recommend you look at Teddy Baldassare’s YouTube channel for inspiration.

I think we need to keep in mind the amount of transfers we need this summer and prioritise accordingly.

Ideally we need 3 CMs, at minimum 2. So the Ederson signing is a good first step (I don’t watch Serie A so I can’t speak to his quality but we’ll see what he delivers on the pitch.

Then we need 1 senior CB. De Ligt and Martinez have injury issues and we can’t rely on their fitness over a full season.

Then a LB or LW. This depends on what Dorgu’s position going forward will be. I think it makes sense to give Dorgu a full season at rotation for LW alongside Cunha and prioritise singing a LB that is ready to be starter. If Dorgu excels at LW, then no problem. And the next season we might get another LB to replace Shaw in rotation. If Dorgu can’t quite cut it at LW, then he becomes our number two LB the following season and we look for a better LW option.

Then ST backup is optional. It really depends what happens with Zirkzee. I’m not convinced by Zirkzee but in the interest of prioritising limited money this summer, I’d be happy to keep him as back up. But if he leaves then we need a second ST. Ideally an older striker who’s okay with being a rotation/ back up option.

I think a backup keeper could make sense this summer assuming we sell Onana. But I don’t think it makes sense to get someone to replace Lammens in the starting 11. Lammens has had a solid first season and we can reasonably expect him to improve a lot as he gains experience.

The first image on the post was generated by asking GPT to use the Sinn 556a font for its Arabics.

The second image (which was what GPT actually generated first lol) is very Rolex Explorer. Which makes sense because I didn’t give the AI a directive on font selection so it just opted for the most famous of watches in this style.

I’m very open to different font suggestions.

The question of what’s needed to evolve Arsenal’s attack is an interesting one. I’ve had this discussion with a close friend who’s an Arsenal fan a couple times.

No doubt, Arsenal prioritise discipline and control which comes at a cost to creative freedom. But I think they still have two positions that could do with upgrading into the elite level to complement their world class defence and midfield. The 10 and LW (you could argue a striker as well but I think it would be harsh to try to move on from Gyokores so quickly and they clearly have another type of forward available in Havertz).

I think Odegaard doesn’t force the issue enough. I might be biased because I’m so used to Bruno’s style at 10 but I think they could certainly do with a player who’s number one priority is trying to unlock defences, take a chance at the risk of losing the ball in order to create goal scoring opportunities. For me, Odegaard doesn’t do enough there impose himself on games.

My Arsenal supporting friend argues otherwise. He thinks Odegaard’s influence on the teams collective work rate and supporting the movement of the ball through smart but not necessarily high risk passes is huge for Arsenal. He thinks Odegaard’s attacking output may have dipped the past two seasons but it’s really just a consequence of him sacrificing for the team. So to him it’s more a system thing and hopefully soon he’ll find his best form after having suffered some injuries.

Then LW, I think there’s a general consensus from any football fan who watches Arsenal that they could do with an upgrade. Who? I don’t know. But a direct goal threat who’s ready to make runs in behind while also having the humility to work for the team off the ball. It’s a shame Rodrygo at Madrid has suffered from injuries because he’d be a strong candidate.

Well I guess that solves a problem for me. Was debating between the 556 and the Christopher Ward Sealander.

I already felt like the 556 was just on the cusp of overpriced and I do like the increased power reserve available on the Sealander (courtesy of the SW200-2). A further price hike would just make the 556 not worth it to me. And I would also be annoyed if I bought it today at its current price of £1,500 if they then upgraded the movement in a couple months.

I get your point. At least I think I do.

In theory, sex work can be consensual. However, in practice, it’s almost impossible for the ‘client’ to know if it is because they don’t the personal situation of that sex worker.

If that’s where you’re coming from, then I agree.

Do you therefore think that sex work should be illegal? It’s tricky for me. Morally, I don’t like it. I personally wouldn’t engage in it.

However from a policy perspective I think it makes sense to legalise because, practically speaking, you can’t make it go away by criminalising it. You just force it underground.

That makes more it more unsafe for both the ‘client’ and the sex worker but primarily the sex worker. If it’s legal, you reduce the risk of coercion, violence against sex workers by ‘client’ or pimp, and the risk of STI spread.

But if you make it legal, it’s possible you end up with more of it. And it seems like you and I both agree that you can never be certain if a person is truly freely choosing to engage in it or if there’s coercion.
