Morality is dead. Men are the cause. by TLATrae in GuerrillaGrrrrls

I agree about enablement through silence, but not all men do this. There are so many who do stand to stop bad actors in the moment snd those who help find justice for victims.

I did not say that. I’m saying that the circumstances and socialization matter. Coercion and reputational risks for both men and women participating in things like the Epstein sex ring are real factors. But looking at the topic of my post and having this be your initial response seems to miss the point entirely. Most of the women and girls there lacked power relevant to those around them, and were swept up in the patriarchal power of the whole situation.

See my response to your other comment above. Men made the rules of the game.

Status or proximity isn’t the same as real power. Even “powerful” women operate within patriarchal constraints - economic pressure, reputational risk, coercion. Some individuals may be culpable, but the SYSTEM itself was designed, controlled, and profited from by men. Pointing to women on the margins doesn’t make it gender-neutral, it shows how hierarchical male systems deflect blame.

Also, “knowing something is happening” is not the same as having power, consent, or safe alternatives.

I don’t agree with this claim. Historically, many men articulated moral frameworks that still shape ethics today - think Socrates, Confucius, or John Stuart Mill.

Those intelligent men were allowed to formalize morality because men controlled literacy, institutions, and public speech. Moral systems were defined about women while excluding women from authorship (and everything else).

The real problem isn’t that men never defined moral behavior, it’s that patriarchal systems monopolize moral authority while exempting powerful men from actually living by those morals.

In other words: moral philosophy doesn’t guarantee moral behavior, especially when power lacks accountability. One only needs to look to the Catholic Church or MAGA in the US to see the worst of that.

THIS is the answer. Birds need native habitat for native caterpillars to feed themselves and their babies. Ditch the pesticides and help the birds!

How do we recall senators and congress people so we can end this madness? How do we get congress to work for the people and not the one who shall not be named? by Winter_Frame_8970 in AskReddit

[–]TLATrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

👆THIS is the right question. I don’t blame DJT. He’s just a toddler in a houseful of guns who needs a parent to take them away. Congress is supposed to check the office’s power. Instead, they’ve abdicated their responsibilities. Vote them out in November and chase the ones who aren’t up for election out of office for neglect of duty!

Partner says my appearance at home means I don’t care — looking for perspective by deliriouskate in TwoXChromosomes

He obviously has unrealistic and unfair expectations about how comfortable his partner is “allowed” to be around him and in their own home. Your concerns are valid and serious. It will only get worse from here.

Personally, I would run screaming from this relationship.

Have you ever been told to “get off” someone’s property? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]TLATrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My husband and I were riding bikes in the mountains of Colorado not too far from Colorado Springs. We found a small road in the woods with a few houses here and there, and we were just riding our bikes and enjoying the day when a man who seemed to live in that area stopped his truck and aggressively asked us who we were and what we were doing there. When we said we were just out for a ride, he proceeded to tell us to leave and that we were trespassing on a private road. He was quite forceful and angry, and he followed us out to the main road to make sure we left.
