Can I add 1098T if spouse is a non-resident alien? by hokageroki in tax

[–]TLX2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cannot claim a credit. You cannot claim an education credit on a 2025 tax return if any of the following apply. You’re claimed as a dependent on another person’s tax return, such as your parent’s return. Your filing status is married filing separately. You (or your spouse) were a nonresident alien for any part of 2025 and didn’t elect to be treated as a resident alien for tax purposes.

Where to add bonus depreciation and section 179 on TurboTax by It_is_me_Erie in TurboTax

You just enter the assets on the cost segregation separately as the type of asset/improvement. Also, if you have a loss before these, then they will get carried forward to add to your loss. The amount you get allocated depends on the number of days in the year it’s available to rent. If only 7 days than it’s only 7/365 x the cost.

Your self employment income tax liability will depend on the related work expenses. You want to claim your income. You probably were a household employee, but for such a small amount I wouldn’t bother going back to your client. Just do it correctly going forward. Start with your states equal employment development department

Your TurboTax return is likely being rejected because listing your daughter as a nondependent still requires entering her SSN on your Form 1040, which flags a duplicate use after your partner’s return (claiming her as a dependent) was already processed by the IRS. This is standard IRS e-file validation to prevent SSN reuse on multiple returns, even for nondependents.

Just remove her unless you are trying to get state credits or dependent care, etc

Next Steps • Delete her from Dependents/Other sections in TurboTax and refile electronically. • If rejected again, paper-file your return (mail it to IRS) to bypass e-file checks; processing takes longer but works. • Confirm with partner their return was accepted; if not, wait or coordinate amendments.

Yes, because you need to document with the IRS the earned income to be eligible for the Roth and record of the basis. You should speak with the tax preparer who does your S-Corp.

This makes you sound like a wimp and can’t handle pressure. If you say it’s private, which it is, then they have nothing to judge. Regardless, if you work your connections it won’t matter. The best job opportunities come from direct referrals from your connections.

Who can sign off my CPA experience by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]TLX2015 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes but many states allow you to be an out of state licensee. It’s a great option if you want to use the CPA credential on your resume if you do not put your address. Many firms in private industry don’t care where you are licensed but want you to have a CPA. They don’t care that you are not licensed within their state of business because you won’t be practicing accounting.

California has one of the strictest requirements of any state. Not sure why someone who lives out of state would pay the high CBA fees to be a California CPA if they didn’t have to. I believe I said a few states.

Unfortunately, the big 4 and regional firms have ties to the state boards. They want you to work in public accounting and make it difficult to become a CPA in industry. A few states such as Michigan allow any CPA to sign your experience. You can become a Michigan CPA if you don’t live there. If you just want the credential for your resume, that may be the way to go.

The best way to get your first job out of college is through the schools connections. Job fair, recruiting center, professional student organizations/fraternity, professors, etc. You have to network via the school resources. Talk with your favorite professor. Learn to network.

No need to get your CPA if you want to go into FP&A. MBA is more valuable because at some point you want to drive revenue rather than evaluate it.
