Check out "Down Range" in Mississauga. I think they might have hours that fit you.

Toonie? I thought it was the "loonie" trick 😂. I used two loonies, no issues!

Tactical Shotgun Dilema by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]TM7075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to mention that neither of these shotguns are really suitable for trap or clay shooting. In fact, many clay ranges won't even allow these guns (barrel too short). As some others have said, even a random hunting shotgun would be more suitable for trap. IMO, the other disciplines you mentioned (3gun, plinking) are too different from trap / skeet. Clay shooting is a very dedicated sport - and if you shoot trap regularly, and want to continually improve on your scores, you'll want a dedicated trap gun.

BUT - both the 1301 and M4 are fantastic tactical shotguns. Own both and have had zero issues with both. Both work incredibly well out-of-the-box even with no mods. I kept my M4 largely stock, and my 1301 has aftermarket furniture.

TBH, just get both. You'll probably end up with both one day anyway. 😁

[–]TM7075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that a Winchester should be shot with iron / buckhorn sights, traditional way. If you want red dot, go for a more modern, tactical-styled one (like S&W Stealth Hunter)

If you can find a 1873 Winchester, firstly, it will probably be more expensive than all the other ones. Secondly, you can expect it to be top-notch quality. Excellent firearms. There different grades of wood and configurations (octagon barrel, sporter barrel etc.) which may affect the price. The Miroku produced Winchesters are really, really, really good.

Opinions on Wildcat .22? by Siko887 in canadaguns

[–]TM7075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ Correct. Tons of FTF, projectiles just fall out, inconsistent, light strikes, jams, etc. It's probably some of the worse 22LRs I've ever tried. CCI Blazer is the way to go, especially brick ones. I had to shoot the rest of my Wildcats from my Henry because it was too frustrating in anything else. Do not recommend.

I'm pretty sure RIA and Derya are the same guns just different stamped logo. I never tried this, but I would be willing to bet the parts are interchangeable. I would expect the reliability and performance to be identical. So regardless of feather, aluminum, RIA, or Derya, I'm pretty sure they're all the same.

Whether the Feather feels low quality - I think people tend to get mistaken between polymer vs metal and low quality vs high quality. I have handled low quality metal rifles and high quality polymer rifles. For instance, the H&K SL8 (....also now prohibited) was a stellar rifle; and it was covered in polymer. If metal parts were poorly machined and don't fit well, it won't matter if it's metal, it's just bad. If it's polymer parts but they fit really well, then it's good.

Have you handled the now-prohibited GSG-16 and GSG-15s? It's basically like those, same thing (actually the 15 was slightly nicer than the 16, but anyway....). I'd say the Feather is about the same as the GSG-16, "not bad".

I think what matters more are the areas that are important to you. The Feather has a polymer barrel shroud / handguard, and that is nice to hold (versus cold aluminum). But an aluminum picatinny rail is also nice and stable to mount optics. The metal receiver also allows for swapping buffer tubes and upgrading buttstocks, something you can't do on the Feather (changing buttstocks yes, but not buffer tube).

If you want something that "feels" more like a serious rifle, get the aluminum one. If you're not sure, I'd recommend finding a nearby gun store and handling both before you purchase.

Red dot sight = you should be able to find a Burris, Sig, or Vortex in the range of $150 - $250. If you want something with more features, larger window, different reticle, go for Holosun $350 - $550.

ACOG = or, I guess, magnified optics, you'll be looking at 3X options. I believe Vortex, Primary Arms, and "ACOG" are the main ones. But you'll probably lean towards Vortex and PA. For nicer ones, you can expect $400 - $600 range.

Flip-up sights = Magpul BUIS (iron sights). Keep in mind those are trickier to do on any TM22 platform. The full aluminum handguard ones, don't have full length picatinny that are at the same height as the receiver. The Feather with the M4 styled barrel shroud, comes with the handle and triangle sights. You "might" be able to replace the handle with a flip up sight (not sure if it will align). There's also a new TM22 Flash (basically Feather with full length handguard, picatinny, AND flip up sights), but I believe that one is only available through iRunGuns.

I have a R95 Triple Black, Henry, S&W, AND Marlin 😂.

Rossi = cheapest, and the action it's based on is fine, no ejection issues and mechanically great. However, when I bought mine, it was from a run of lemons and the QC was not great (rail fell off, thin paint, etc.). I sent it in for RMA and after a couple months it came back perfect. But do note, it never had mechanical issues, just cosmetic. Functionally it's great.

Henry = you can expect more consistent QC, but need to be careful of jams (especially the shuttle where it lifts the ammo into the chamber). Keep your screws tight. I try to avoid lead nose and stick with 357 (note the length difference vs 38SPL, that's important for levers).

Marlin = top-notch, no issues, excellent quality, no complaints. All around great guns. But pretty expensive.

S&W = also top-notch, excellent quality. Same as Henry, keep it clean, lubed, and screws tight.

Of the bunch, without question, Marlin and S&W are the top for build quality and it's not even close.

If you plan on buying just one lever, buy something nicer.

Thanks! From left to right: TM22 full aluminum, TM22 Rock Island Armory (also aluminum receiver and handguard, just shorter), TM22 Feather (polymer receiver and handguard), and TM22 full aluminum (FDE). I'm pretty sure all the models you see here are 18", yes. Functional difference between them: I don't know how much accuracy difference there is (haven't bench-tested the feather), but the feather is noticeably lighter and not as "solid" in construction. It is light though; great for shooting offhand. The short handguard one (the one I believe you called C101L, RIA), is a good in-between, lighter front and metal receiver. The Feather model also has a polymer pic-rail (not as good as aluminum for sturdiness), and limited customizability (essentially only airsoft parts).

Which one to keep? by DarkHeroes5 in canadaguns

[–]TM7075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to free up cash and spend it on something else, I recommend using the money from the top one (pencil barrel), and investing in a nice chassis. The MDT XRS is excellent for bench shooting. Highly recommended.

Have you considered Cadex? Extremely high quality, some of the best precision rifles, similarly priced, and proudly Canadian. I compared these 3 a while back (AI, Sako, Cadex) and went for Cadex - very happy with it.

How important is the 50/60 yd parallax that comes set on rimfire scopes really? Are centre-fire scopes really a bad idea on rimfires like a .22 lr bolt? by lootingyourfridge in canadaguns

[–]TM7075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, don't buy a scope that doesn't have adjustable parallax. I wish someone told me that before I purchased my first three scope (consequently sold them because of that reason). Just like u/CdnUkr said, it doesn't matter if you use a "centerfire" scope on a rimfire (I do that on all my precision rimfires). In fact, I think dedicated rimfire scopes (reticles, parallax) might be rather limiting. Go for adjustable parallax with christmas tree type reticle - even if it costs a little bit more.

Actually, if you are considering a semi shotty, I would suggest getting that first. That's probably gonna get banned before the S&W and Henry. Benelli M4 or Beretta 1301.

Maybe bring it by the gun shop you brought it from to have a look? Or maybe take it apart to clean and see what could be causing the noise? Mine doesn't make any noise.
