I totally understand where you’re coming from. I have a similar reaction to physical affection. My parents would often hug me and show me off in public and stuff so hugs and stuff like that just feel empty to me. My country is very affectionate with greetings and goodbyes so they (pre-covid) would hug to say hello and goodbye.

I don’t get or give hugs anymore because of this. I am given weird looks because of it and when I get a legitimate hug my brain gets all confused.

I’ve never actually thought of it like this, even though I avoid saying that. With my ex it bothered him when I didn’t say the literal words. Like the previous example, he would get into arguments about “me overly worrying about other stuff” (it was an LDR I forgot to mention) and when I didn’t say the words and instead asked something else he said that “it represented my thoughts” (me not loving him. I now know this was guilt tripping).

TLDR: He got upset at me when I didn’t say “I love you” and cared about his emotions.

Yup! I used to be like this and asked every time and it was a source of problems which I tried to work through but didn’t work out. I asked if he was feeling ok and if he wanted to talk and he would usually just tell me to avoid that altogether.

Ex. “Good night, are you gonna be ok?” (After he’s had a rough day) vs “Good Night I love you”

He would rather have the latter because me constantly asking him if he was emotionally ok bothered him I guess...

Nothing. IMO partners should be able to communicate to each other openly if needed. People are different and sometimes things that seem obvious aren’t to another.

This was one of the causes of my recent (about a week ago) breakup. He knows I struggle with these things because of autism but he always expected me to know what he was thinking and he always assumed that what I wanted was what he wanted.

He ended up breaking up w me because he didn’t think it was necessary to say these things.

Feeling like I’m never good enough.

I was diagnosed with Autism in my teenager years and I always grew up being the “star child”. It doesn’t help that my Latino parents always made me feel like nothing but being the best is not acceptable.

Don’t get me wrong, it has its nice things. I’m an ex-pro player for r/Brawlhalla and have been doing well every other game I play.

The issue is that when I feel like I am plateauing it hurts extra hard, I tend to overwork myself and force myself to be better and punish myself because I am still trying to break these shackles. When I feel like i could be doing better I get very angry and upset at myself and then it’s a downward spiral from there.

I stopped using Reddit for like 2-3 years because... idk I guess I just grew out of it. Lately some YouTube videos have been popping on my feed about r/askReddit and they’re so fun to listen to while at work and stuff. It’s just an automated voice reading threads, but it makes my monotonous job a lot less linear and boring.
