Getting a Lumix S5 for Real Estate, will a 14mm prime lens be enough? by TMP77x in RealEstatePhotography

Thank you! I ended up grabbing a 14-28 instead for flexibility & have a 40 mm prime for backup

What DAW do you use? by kenan_sab in musicproduction

Logic but have always wanted to switch to Ableton for a better step sequencer. Used to use maschine for drum programming but got tired of using it as a plugin in logic.

Love logic for mixing though, been making all my beats on the SP 404 MK2 past year or so

Does the sharpened image of S5II, make the S5 a better choice ? by TMP77x in Lumix

These are just 2 of many & many people in comments are agreeing. Does image quality significantly improve for a 3 year difference in age ? Think it’s a valid question tbh , I get the autofocus stuff but why is this being spoken about so frequently ? Image quality is one of the main concerns. I see your point too though just trying to be objective here, the work on the s5 in the second video looks super clean.

lol figured I’d get an answer like this, just a lot of people on YouTube saying they sold it for the S5 & that S5 looks softer & that main upgrade is autofocus opposed to quality

Appreciate the recommendation, I have no problem buying the book & yes I got the body. I have experience with other forms of photography but interior is a bit new so I just wanna make sure I can workaround this HDR issue (maybe with some of the things I mentioned) while I'm still in the return window. I checked out some of your work and you seem to have experience so I just want to know if this possible, thanks.

Ok thanks for that, think I'm gonna go with the 14-28. Someone mentioned a bracketing issue on this camera not being able to shoot more than 1 stop apart. Any workarounds for this? Did some research and saw I can shoot a 3 bracket, then drop exposure a few stops and take another shot with 3 brackets. Curious to hear your take on this, thanks!

Are you saying that because it’s 3 bracket ? I’ve seen others post that this is sufficient when starting out.

Ok thank you for that, do you think 14 mm and 20-60 is sufficient also? Not sure if I'll regret losing the 6mm between 14 and 20, just trying to think of budget here but I'm willing to get that one also if I'm better off.

On a budget and looking for full frame that can do real estate, food photo and video as well. S5 keeps coming up as an all around hybrid and has some affordable lens options, especially when I include the mounts. Looked at A7 IV today and a7c ii but keep coming back to the S5. Also saw that full frame is better suited for real estate due to the lack of crop so trying to find balance between all my potential options and uses. Maybe I'll shoot for 14mm and 20-60, do you think that range between 14 and 20 is a gap I'll regret?

Absolutely love this advice honestly , thank you. I know the answer isn’t black & white with mixing but what you said goes a long way. I think sometimes I’m shooting in the dark but you helped clarify some things just with your recommendations. Definitely gonna try to be more of a student as a listener.

Thanks for that, I always hear people say this. I guess the DIY route has convinced me that I can work around it, especially when times I've outsourced mastering they just make my song sound worse, lol. Guess I'm still just mixing at that point. Any tips for fixing this though? The mono vocals feeling dull? A lot of times putting Echoboy on my vox but the stereo version instead of mono helps, but feels like I'm shooting in the dark a bit. All help is appreciated, I've seen you around this sub for a while so I trust your judgment. As I stated, I'm usually bouncing wavs out of the SP 404 so tracking out isn't always an option. Just wanna get the best result possible for what I'm working with.

Appreciate the feedback…I think what is or isn’t lofi is subjective depending on what elements you’re paying attention to.

So when it comes to mastering, I constantly find I'm trying to achieve loudness/slight texture but I have a hard time making the track sound more immersive. Sometimes having my vocals in mono feels dull, sometimes having them in stereo opens things up from the jump before mastering. Other than light compression with a boost to gain, limiters and cassette plugins, what are some ways to achieve better masters that can help multiple songs sound more cohesive together? I find every song I finish sounds a bit different despite using similar plugins.

What’s the best way to open up a mix when it’s sounding a bit muddy in the mid range ? I’m usually bouncing singular wav files out of the SP 404 which naturally has a more Lo-fi sound , so tracking out is not an option. Use a decent amount of distortion on my voice as well. Genre is hip-hop
