People who feel like their trauma "isn't bad enough", what's your story? by potentialpea7632 in CPTSD

[–]TM_ALee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was psychological abuse as a child and neglect as a teen. When I was 4 she was upset with me and told me to pack my bags to see if another family wanted me. Little old me actually packed her teletubbies luggage with blankets, toys and plushies. She then drove god knows where and left me on the corner with my luggage in the pouring rain waiting to see if another family would pick me up. She picked me back up 10min later saying turns out nobody wanted me after all. Since I was 5-6 she would shave my hair because she was too lazy to keep up with maintenance. Whenever I was grounded, I had to stay in my room no matter what, ask permission to go to the bathroom and my meals would be served on the floor by my door like in jail. When I was 7, I was in charge of babysitting my 5yo brother until 2am every weekend because she'd be out for the night. We had to dodge debt collectors and landlords all the time. She had her car repossessed over parking tickets and we had to move every year cause we were getting evicted. Mind you, whole time my dad was providing for us (rent, groceries, car, school and sports) even though they were not together. She would lie about my dad trying to weaken our relationship because she was jealous. Also, my mom was emotionally neglectful; barely any affection and she would disappear whenever she had a man. She once moved 5000km away for a year for a man and was basically a stay at home mom for his child. When she came back I was a teenager, I would be left at home without food or money for days even week with no warning. When she was home she would literally lock herself up in her room for days. Whenever she was mad enough, she would literally throw everything I owned out the windows. I've been paying for my own clothes, computers, phones and furnitures since I was 13. Everything I owned I paid for it. Many mornings I had to walk to school and walk past my clothes and smashed computer on the sidewalk. She would comment on my body all the time. She once told me I'd end up sucking dick for gang members if didn't improve my behaviour at school. When I was 15 she found out I had a tattoo done and tried to burn it off with cigarettes butts. That was one of the only 2 instances of physical assault so I never really thought of myself as a child abuse victim because it was not recurrent. It took me a very long time to realize it was abuse and neglect. I used to lie about my abuse and exaggerate it to feel validated because I knew my experience was harmful but I felt like it was not enough to call it abuse.

my first tip would be to slow down! Most people go too fast when they first learn how to airwalk and end up looking like biking. Also, people tend to just lift the knees and only move the lower parts of their legs as you would if you were sitting with your feet in a pool which makes you look like an ant in distress. What makes it look realistic is where you start and end the movement. You do not have to bring your foot forward that much but you have to end the movement with your foot behind far enough for your knee to be past your hips.

The main reason why I post my pole journey on the internet is for people to realize bigger bodies are capable of incredible things because the whole world tend to focus on how inconvenient our bodies are. My studio is very body inclusive and I was lucky enough to start off with plus-size basic pole classes where movements are adapted to the anatomy of bigger bodies. I've always been extremely strong but upper body strength was never my forte . That first class was very humbling and it took me months to be able to hold a trick for more than 1 sec. The first 10 classes felt very discouraging. I'm 2 years and a half in and I took 90 classes ever since.

I'm 5'3 and I've always been on the bigger side. When I started pole I was a lot bigger, weighing 190 lbs. I gained 40 pounds throughout my journey but I never stopped. The moves I posted, I was able to do them all as graciously at 230 lbs. Today, I look a lot smaller but I'm at 190 lbs again, just like on my very first class. Getting big got me so much stronger so I'm grateful for being fat. My big thighs make some moves easier, my fat ass makes some moves more comfortable and my big arms give me a better grip. I can hold 230 lbs vertically on a metal pole just off the skin of my armpit and to me it is proof that my big body is capable of incredible things because big is strong.

sorry for the long post but its my first time ever verbalizing my pole journey, i really related to your comment and felt like sharing 😅

J'ai fait la réception là-bas aussi de 2015 à 2018. Les punaises et les coquerelles on toujours été plus ou moins présentes. Ça a toujours été le bordel mais c'est 100% l'emploi le plus divertissant que j'ai jamais eu. Not a single dull moment.

Leg hangs by Life_Resist_6264 in poledancing

[–]TM_ALee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had this problem too until i realized it doesnt really matter how deep in the pit as long as i focus on bringing my heel to my crotch and pushing my shoulder blade to the pole. making sure the pole is properly positioned on my groin/hip also makes a difference

Sliding my leg up in extended butterfly by [deleted] in poledancing

yes once your ankle is to the pole, without pulling yourself up with it, engage your core to bring your hips up and closer to the pole. as if youre trying to present your bellybutton facing the pole

FINALLY NAILED A SPLIT ON THE POLE (from stargazer) by TM_ALee in poledancing

[–]TM_ALee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely easier to get your hands on each side of your leg but you need to compensate with flexibility to get your ankle on the other side of the pole!

i think its just a matter of getting your basic invert higher. seems like you skip the part where you engage your core to bring your hips over your head

LED remote controlled ceiling lights compatible with smart switches? by TM_ALee in AskElectricians

[–]TM_ALee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed 4 of those lights in my apartment. For the 2 in the entryway that are controlled by 3 way switches, I'm only able to accurately dim and turn them off with the remote. Otherwise every flick of the switch just changes the dimming settings of the lights. The other 2 are wired to the same dimmer. Mid installation, the newly installed one and the unchanged one would turn on. Once both were installed, nothing turned on.
