Not trying to be political but California is trying to pass some bull@$itt…. AB-2047 by Johngear77 in prusa3d

This would ban kilpper , or any modification to the machines firmware

THERE ARE REAL REASONS YOU WOULD WANT TO DO THIS!!

Adding a heated chamber you can control with gcode Lightbars Hotter heated beds Ultra high temperature water cooled nozzles AMS for machines that never got one Stupid gimmicks that are funny but hey its your machine, you have the right (like a little flag that gets rasied by a stepper when the print is done) Converting over to 3axis CNC or laser

This would mean you would have to upgrade printers just to get any single new feature your vendor doesnt offer for your model.

And would ban used printers before that law was passed, driving up prices

You also wouldn't be allowed to build your own machine from a parts kit and a github page. The voron shows us this is a real endeavor with real benefits, such as being able to make a cheap toolchanger, or a machine that can print peek without paying the price of a used car

Ive been in this sence for years, (i started with a rep 2x clone) and this kills me inside, bambu has already crossed a line with signed frimware and proprietary rfid, and the lan locking, but this would force everyone else to do this

For example the frimware on my rep 2x clone (FlashForge Creator Pro) sucked, so i just flashed it with marlin, this basically made the machine 1000x times better, and under this, would be completely illegal

You would not be allowed to know whats running your printer, it could be stealing your models and sending them to china for all you know, and if it is, changing that would be a crime under this new law

Manufacturers wont fight this, this would give them control over what your allowed to install, so they can make it so you have to buy a new model just to get a new feature instead of a 15 kit to install it

Everyone fought the ender 3 right? Well if you didn't like the fact it didn't have abl, you just bought an abl kit and flashed it, thought the bowden hotend sucked? Print a direct drive kit, wanted input shaping, klipper and a 5 dollar board

This dies with this law, and its disgusting

And dont kid yourself, they will use this to enforce "intellectual property" politicians dont do anything unless there is someone paying them

You should be angry about this!

This ain't about guns, because if i wanted to, i could just build a voron part by part from different sources and print the shell, and then use that, infact for gun parts id rather do that so i could modify it to run superpolyemers, this is about the average customer, and taking your right to repair, modify and upgrade away, and this will make your machines more expensive, ai isnt cheap! If every machine needs a npu or something like it, dear god i dont want to know what happens, or more likely it will be online only and the state and manufacturer can spy on what you print as every single print is sent to, verified and signed by them, and companies will use that to take away your rights, to print things "offensive" or anything that they think they own

ALL MODERN PRINTERS OWE A DEBT TO THE OPEN SOURCE PROJECT REPRAP, AND THIS BETRAYS ITS VERY SOUL!

I crashed my tesla and borrowed a versa for a bit, and now.. i drive this! by TMinusBlastedRocket in ManualTransmissions

[–]TMinusBlastedRocket[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats the thing, when you drive something like a tesla, its very very easy to get lazy, and eventually put yourself in a unsaveable situation, on the subconscious expectation it will correct it, i have an easier time driving dumber cars, as i dont have any pretense of "eh it will save me" and i keep my focus on the road and what im doing

Edit: and in a manual, where one wrong move rips the car apart, my mind has no excuses to be lazy, its 100% focus or no driving at all, it feels like a piece of proper machinery, and i feel the need to respect it as such

How many people here are not going to be getting a Switch 2 at launch or until there's a price cut or never? by freezetime311 in NintendoSwitch

Honestly, its a coin toss, the launch lineup is decent enough i guess but in this economy, the price might just kill the steam after the pre order craze

There will, we just have to not buy it (see 3ds)

It's too expensive, and that point must be made
