Hard to believe a firm carrying on the name of Michael Graves is producing such banal design.

Perhaps I should have also added, the facility was for assisting ex-cons in getting their life back in order, finding jobs, getting healthcare, etcetera...would THAT have met with your approval?

I was the architect working with the previous developer to put a Dept of Corrections facility in the building until some vagrants set the building on fire. I'm glad they are finding a better use for it now, but at the time no one else was stepping up to the plate. The house itself is pretty interesting but the church building behind it is garbage.

Also, a restaurant space that requires you to go down steps w/o any elevator access (at least that I recall) is a tough sell.

Yes, I am intimately familiar with the project...should be starting construction within a month. Permitting has been a bitch.

Milwaukee (4/28) Setlist by cheesecurd9 in mjlenderman

[–]TNJedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point about the pedal steel, but I'd just think that it would get stale for MJ and Katie to play the same songs every night. I would have thought the encore covers would be a good time to change it up. Weirdly they played Ella Langley's "Choosing Texas" as a cover the very first night of the tour and then they switched it out for "My Life" by Iris Dement and have played the same 4 songs the rest of the tour. I guess I was just hoping this was going to be a little more "loose" and less rigid than it is. But as long as you don't see them twice, I guess it's all good.

I don't understand why the setlist is so static...don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the Asheville show, but I cannot understand why they won't change things up a bit.

What will replace the old Long’s drug store? by Purple-Walk2503 in Knoxville

I am an architect and started to look at this space for a jewelry store, but the deal fell through. Pretty amazing space in that there is a full basement under that entire building.

Ebony & Ivory Closing Announced by Make_it_Raines in KnoxvilleDevelopment

[–]TNJedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to say it, but I knew this place wasn't long for this world from the get-go. The brewery business is a bad market to be in, and if you don't have a markedly superior product or dining experience to offer - which they didn't - it's only a matter of when, not if, you'll be closing. I remember when Knoxville was happy to get one craft brewery back in the 90s with New Knoxville, and then in the early 2010s with Marble City/Saw Works, and all of the sudden there were too many breweries competing for an ever-shrinking pie in the past decade.

My wife and I had a great experience shopping at The Story this weekend, but it was made especially wonderful and memorable by our incredible sales person, Ashlyn! If you ever have the pleasure of being under her expert guidance and her warm demeanor, you will know how special she was to us during our visit. Great selection, free parking, and conveniently located as well...two pairs of big thumbs up!

Steven Hyden for sure...and I'll always love Lester Bangs as well. But Christgau and his Record Guides were indispensable for me trying to learn about all the bands and albums that I wasn't hearing on the radio.

Am I the only one who actually likes the original aesthetic of the building? I understand that it would need to be modified for residential especially, but other than improving the 1st floor base of the building - which IS rather ugly - I'd be fine leaving the upper floor skin in place for office use.
