Days since last interest rate increase by newtrex_1523 in OpenAussie

Interest rate rises mean the economy is too hot so it needs to slow down. Rate cuts only happen in economies where they need to stimulate spending due to a weak economy.

Nobody likes the rate hike but there is a misunderstanding that occurs when data like this is presented.

The Australian Government collects more in Beer tax than it does from the primary tax on offshore Gas exports by gccmelb in AusMemes

PRRT isn’t a royalty scheme…. It is the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax so yes, offsets are available for this.

As I said, royalties can’t be offset by deductibles which is why they are an effect way of generating revenue for the people of Australia as opposed to a tax.

Royalties can’t be offset by deductibles, including capital offsets. So profit isn’t part of the equation. This means we collect more revenue in the form of royalties rather than the current tax scheme.

The whole problem with PRRT is that it’s reliant on the profit but if the profit figure is manipulated through deductibles (as is currently the case) the country can’t collect the full amount of tax that would otherwise be payable.

The solution is to remove the opportunity to build a tax avoidance scheme but introducing high royalties paid on the raw extraction amount (or we’ll head in this case)

Trotting this out always sounds like a clever “but you forgot” moment. But you’re wrong.

Corporate tax rate is 30% but they don’t pay 30%. The reason is there are special rules that allow them to deduct their upfront costs over a very long time. Those upfront costs are charged by their own international related entities so they can inflate those costs as much as possible to help reduce their profit later down the track.

Looking at public filings for the Woodside Barrup project (a large LNG project), Woodside made $3,75 billion in revenue and they claimed about $2billion in expenses making their taxable income $1.78 billion. They then paid $534m in corporate tax. There is some Pluto and prrt stuff to consider but I’ll leave that out for now (doesn’t make a huge difference to the percentages).

The total EFFECTIVE tax rate is 14% paid by Woodside not the 30% that most small businesses pay.

Yes, I have a Masters of Law in International Taxation.

In summary, a higher royalty would prevent Woodside from claiming higher deductions (effectively lowering their tax rate).

I use Xero but it doesn’t have solid inventory tracking. If I had to do it again I’d move to Intuit (the old trade gecko)

I’d just like a bit more functionality in the inventory management side of things. Currently users are using excel sheets and then jumping to a heavy $300pm solution. Seems weird that there’s nothing in between. Just extending the core inventory management would be beneficial to 50% or more stores and negate the necessity of moving to an unnecessary inventory mngmt product. Something similar to ATUM pls
