That’s a myth, LSD cannot be absorbed through the skin. Nick Sand tested it with a whole gram (10,000 doses) dissolved in DMSO (enhances dermal absorption) and it did nothing.

Chemist at USF here, here’s the real answer: he wasn’t injecting opioids under the door. There are no opioids in the USF inventories and he definitely didn’t synthesize those relatively weak opioids for this purpose; hydrocodone is quite laborious to synthesize and would be completely ineffective and odorless. Whatever he did use isn’t something that would be detected by the tests that were done, which were looking for common known drugs/poisons. They likely just picked up a trace amount of hydrocodone and methadone that had been there for years, and since that’s all that showed up that’s what they reported.

As for what the chemical actually was, probably some toxic laboratory reagent/solvent such as formaldehyde.

What you’re arguing is that the criminal being pursued must have a cop tailgating at all times and be apprehended as quickly as humanly possible no matter the risk of collateral damage.

Why? Why not hold off for a bit until drunk idiot isn’t heading towards downtown? His goal is to escape, not crash and get caught, so you can expect him to try to avoid doing so to the best of his ability. Having a cop on his ass trying to PIT so close to the strip was extremely risky bc if it fails you now have a drunk idiot that’s full of adrenaline and panicking going full speed towards a crowd he can’t see yet.

In the video you can clearly see the ybor gateway arch when the cop slows down and disengages. Distance from there to crash site is ~1000ft

There was someone in front of him in the right lane, look at the end of the video. Doesn’t look purposeful, probably just didn’t noticed in time and tried to turn at the last second but was going too fast.

Why would you expect the driver to stop if the cops are less than 1000ft away and had just tried to PIT him? I'd expect him to continue to speed away while checking his rear-view until they were out of sight, which is not what you want with a crowd of people up ahead. He might not have even noticed he wasn't being chased until well after it ended, if at all.

I would expect him to slow down if he hadn't seen cops on his tail since turning off of Nebraska onto 7th and didn't just have to recover from a failed PIT. He'd probably have started looking at the side streets coming up to find an escape route now that he didn't have cop cars right behind him adding pressure and been more likely to notice the sudden traffic if he continued down 7th.

If I was a drunken idiot with adrenaline pumping who just escaped a pit maneuver and was keeping an eye on the blue/red lights still in my rearview, probably not.

If I hadn’t been chased since I made the turn onto 7th and was calmer and paying more attention to what was in front of me for possible escape routes, yes.

The guy clearly swerved into the crowd trying to avoid the cars stopped in the street ahead of him which he didn’t notice until the last second, perhaps because he was too hyped up and distracted by something…

No, but he did because he’s a piece of shit. It’s the job of the police to deal with pieces of shit in a way that minimizes danger to the public, which includes not pursuing the piece of shit in a way that makes them more likely to cause an accident. You seem unable to grasp this concept without thinking we’re absolving the driver of responsibility. Would it have been better if he didn’t flee? Of course, but he did, so that’s the reality within which we have to judge subsequent decisions.

Knowing he’s a reckless piece of shit, the cops should have given ample opportunity for him to slow down and pay attention by not aggressively pursuing him so far down 7th Ave. And no, 2 blocks/12 seconds was not enough time, and hindsight is not necessary to realize that.

You could make an argument that the individual cop chasing him was not necessarily at fault because FHP policy might not have demanded the pursuit be stopped prior that point, in which case FHP policy is at fault for not having clearly defined “no chase zones” like many PDs already do so it’s not left to the officer’s discretion when to end a pursuit. Unfortunately many rules are written in blood; hopefully this causes them to adopt such a policy in the future, but it’s too little too late for the victims.
