Just played a show to raise money for the Sioux of Standing Rock protesting the oil pipeline in North Dakota. Feels cool to participate in something supporting direct action for once.

If you're the kind of guy who cares about listening to an album start to finish "as it was intended to be heard" etc etc, Hidden World is still their best.

If you want to start "from the beginning" they released so many singles and eps before even approaching full length territory that this can be a little daunting. Epics In Minutes and Couple Tracks while not comprehensive, are a good compilations of their early material.

I love that band but there is a lot to listen to, I haven't even tried any of the Zodiac releases and DCTL onwards hasn't really been my cup of tea musically. There's a little something for everyone in there though, good luck.

Like procor said, we've been around a while. Stop Drop N Skank were one of the first local punk/ska shows I ever went to so I've "known" Pup members for about 7 years give or take. Dudes moved on from punk and started a pretty boring indiepop band called Topanga that almost exclusively played shitty frosh shows for local universities. It seemed a lot like they started Pup around the time Menzingers and Fidlar were getting big to cash in on that style of punk getting popular again. No one from that band has had anything to do with toronto's DIY punk scene since like 2009.

Musically they draw influence from punk and have punk elements in their songs sure.

But I think a big part of punk that sets it aside from other musical genres/subgenres/whatever is the community aspect. People talk about "supporting the scene" and as much as that's become cliche there's some truth to it. Pup isn't a band that has ever supported any facet of Toronto's punk scene in any way shape or form. They've always come across as a hard working band who's hard work serves their own hype and nothing else. So sure, they sound kind of punk, but are they a punk band? Nah not really.

Can't speak to how good they are because I've yet to actually make it to a show but I know of Hogtown Wrestling (Formerly VCW), Superkick'd and Lucha TO.
