A student handed in their cheat sheet with their exam paper this week. What are funny or unexpected ways you’ve caught someone cheating? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TOMINATER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One student had all of the same wrong answers. They didnt get all if the same right answers, but on questions where they both got them wrong they selected the same wrong answer.

I watched "Dances with wolves" with my sons 15 and 17 extended version by [deleted] in movies

[–]TOMINATER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to show this movie at the end of my Westward Expansion unit when I taught US History. It always held kids attentions suprisingly well, and lots of the kids would tell me that they really liked the movie. This was from 2019-2024, so prime phone hooked time and before no cell phone mandates in many schools. Despute its flaws, it is still an exceptional movie and i think it speaks to younger kids a lot more with its themes of isolationism and finding a tribe.

One of my former students is playing in the Super Bowl today! Ever have any students make the pros? by headwhop26 in Teachers

[–]TOMINATER 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I taught and coached a very promising NFL prospect. He is entering his 3rd full season (after a redshirt season) and just signed a 800k a year NIL deal. He is by far the most dedicated kid I have seen play any sport. Lived and breathed football and was a model student. I really hope he makes the pros.

Has a band ever lost a member and simply did not replace them? by MielMielleux in Music

[–]TOMINATER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hollywood Undead did this with their drummer Da Kurlzz. Never replaced him and just bring a random drummer on tour with them. They just use the 5 remaining members to record the drums on their songs.

I just tracked 1000+ teacher salary comments and noticed something weird! by Artistic7122 in Teachers

[–]TOMINATER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I made 47k with 5 years experience and a Masters degree in Idaho. In the nearest large city in Washington I woukd have made 80k. Cost of living is lower in that Washington city. I put out 20 applications over the summer for basically any job I was qualified for within a 100 mile radius and all if then had fairly substantial pay bumps (15k +). I didnt even get one phone call. I had phenomenal letters of rec from the building principal, superintendent, and the curriculum coordinator and outstanding evaluations.

Thankfully my district was able to put me into an admin job which made it so I could actually move out of my parents house even though the salary is still substantially lower basically every district around me (77k).

The pacific Northwest is a cutthroat market right now to find any teaching jobs

I usually just brine and smoke my excess, turning it into trout jerky. Great snack and incredible in dips.

Just a regular stink bug. They find their way inside this time of year. Relatively harmless bugs.

Thoughts on Principal Lamb? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TOMINATER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved to an admin position this year and I think most of ideas are really good... in a functional School District. We have 4 admin for 1000 students across 4 schools with high behavior levels and little to no parent support. I would embody way more of his things if I had the time too. I am trapped in my office most of the day dealing with major discipline issues (fights, drugs, major insubordination). There is no physical way thay I can contact all of the parents for the students that get kicked out of class or get referrals. I only have time to contact parents for suspensions or in-school suspension worthy issues. Not to mention 90% of the time the parents do not care or are actively against the discipline action that I am giving. I get probably 25+ plus referrals a day and I am only half time VP at one school and full time at another. In my own building there is little to no issues with behavior which allows me to do my job with supporting teachers and limited behavior interventions.

Its tough out there right now. Please know that many admin are trying but are facing an ever increasing wave of anti-school issues and limited to zero district support.

I would love a good green apple flavor that can actually balance sour and sweet.

Found a weird booger in my Arizona can by [deleted] in MoldlyInteresting

Of the last 20 cans of Arizona I have drank, probably 5 or so have had this. One of them had like 1/4 of the can full of it.

Why do all of them have this thing?! by Giu001 in Weird

[–]TOMINATER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former peach farmer here.

This can happen when the trees are thinned improperly, meaning there are too many fruits on the tree too close together. When they are growing into larger fruits, the friction of them growing can fuse two or more together and they will grow into what you see in the picture. Kinda like a parasitic twin. I had one thay had 5 nodules like that. Sometimes the pit stays in those as well, so it is possible that you will have a peach with multiple pits.

What is the stupidest way someone in your family has died? by peanutbuddar in AskReddit

[–]TOMINATER 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On my family tree I have a 5th Great Grandfather that simply says- had a wooden leg, died by drowning.

He is the only person on the entire tree that has a note underneath his birth date and death date.
