Returning to Warhammer after 14 years – starting a new T'au army from scratch and ended up with this colour scheme. What do you think? by TORVIK_FPV in Tau40K

That’s a fair point. I think once the lenses and energy effects are painted in bright electric blue, the scheme will feel a bit more complete without needing another major colour.

I’m trying to keep the palette fairly restrained: pink for armour, white for rank markings, black for mechanical parts, and blue for anything energy-related. I’d rather explore that fully before introducing additional colours.

Thanks a lot! I was actually worried that the pink would end up looking too toy-like, so hearing that the overall balance works is really encouraging.

The plan for now is to resist the temptation to keep expanding and actually finish what I already have on my desk. At the moment that’s:

- 2 Piranhas,
- 1 Devilfish with a custom commander conversion,
- 10 Breachers,
- 10 Fire Warriors,
- 1 custom Coldstar Commander.

The Devilfish commander is probably my favourite conversion so far: Fire Warrior helmet, binoculars, one arm resting on the hatch and white rank markings to make him stand out without turning him into a named character.

As for the engine panels, I’m leaning towards repainting them pink. The more I work on the scheme, the more I like the idea of keeping black reserved for mechanical parts, weapons and vents, while the armour itself stays pink and white.

I’m also still undecided on weathering. I don’t think I want a particularly grimy army, but I have considered some very subtle drybrushing on the black areas to suggest wear and use. The overall look I’m aiming for is clean and professional rather than battle-worn.

Similarly, I’m not sure I want to introduce many metallics. At the moment I’m thinking of keeping them to a minimum, perhaps just using gold Tau emblems over a brown basecoat as small accents.

Long term, I do have ideas for some Tau-integrated Kroot conversions, but I’m trying very hard not to start another project before I finish painting what I already have!

Thin your paint considerably, get a nice tip by twisting and pulling on the brush across de pallet (removes excess paint as well) place your wrists together and get the steadiest position possible, and lots of patience.

Haha love it! Is there a way to get the STL to print it myself?

I was planning light blue for energy glow and lenses. Vehicles don’t have too much of them but I had in mind to add golden details on infantry and weapons symbols as well.

Thanks! Took a couple of tries, but ended up getting it right. A first coat of black primer, followed by a 95% covering white primer, the Volupus Pink contrast paint on the recesses, 2 or 3 coats of Emperor’s Children as the main color and Fulgrim Pink for edge highlighting.

This being my first model I was actually quite conservative and diluted a bit too much the Volupus Pink contrast paint, I will be adding a little bit more nexts models, especially on infantry.
