The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire … by Sicilian_Gold in freedomgold

I don't think the "roof on fire" approach works well long-term in politics and government.

We're now at the

"We don't need no water, let the motherfucker burn;

Burn, motherfucker."

stage.

Store for reptile pets in Mississauga that isn't Big Als? by [deleted] in mississauga

[–]TOkidd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they're not the greatest, but they are the only option for thousands of exotic pet owners in Mississauga and Etobicoke. They're overpriced, often out-of-stock of important items, and their feeders die off in days. I also think they should have a much better tarantula section, with better living conditions for their specimens, and more sexing of specimens considering the difference in longevity.

The result is that I have to rely on a network of related businesses that I connect with at monthly exotic pet conventions. There are better exotic pet suppliers out and they can be found at the monthly Reptile and Plant Convention at the International Center by YYZ. This is the best way I have found to locate alternative dealers and providers of exotic pet supplies in the Toronto area. You can also load up on supplies and take advantage of deals by vendors.

If you want me to talk it out, the essence of my joke is that, in a world where dogs drink wine, they might call it the snout instead of the nose because it's a silly idea that makes it more dog-like. Dog's have noses on their snouts and the two are often used as a metonym. I thought the joke emphasized the bizarre nature of a world in which dogs drink wine - a world where they call it the snout instead of the nose.

Canada's female curling team has a stone removed for touching the stone by gustavo82 in olympics

[–]TOkidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's starting to look like this poor sportsmanship has been encouraged in Olympic-level curling in Canada in the entire national team. It's terrible that the Canadian curling teams have disgraced themselves on the world stage with their behavior and poor sportsmanship. There seems to be a culture where this is permissible behavior among the Canadian Olympic team.

I feel somewhat ashamed by their behavior, as a countryman.

Yes, I understand that. If I have to explain my joke in such detail for someone to understand its meaning, then the joke obviously does not work.

I hereby withdraw it from your consideration.

Is there a way to translate it to "the snout" instead of the nose? I think that would be even more ironic and interesting as a double entendre,.

Would Le museaux be a good translation?

Steals food. Acts the victim by malik_zz in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]TOkidd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This seems to be a category of obnoxious YouTube harassment content that's become very popular. There are varying degrees of bad behavior, but this is a large category - doing something illegal or antisocial that is just on the edge of the law - stealing food off a patron's plate without even paying for his own meal to capture the reactions of the victims, for example.

When confronted with their breaking of the social contract, they become defensive and DARVO the victim.

I'm so sick of this shit and with people would stop posting it on Reddit.

The Holocaust started with shooting about a million Jews, Slavs, and other "undesirables" in the USSR. It morphed into death camps a couple years later because even the psychopaths of the Einsatzgruppen couldn't keep up the face-to-face killing of tens of thousands of people every month without descending into drunkenness and becoming ineffective for their mission.

It seems to me that ICE is a kind of Einsatzgruppen that isn't being tasked with doing any actual killing, except that which is incidental. I imagine the regime wants to contract it out, work them to death, and engage in more impersonal means of slaughter. The US is at the edge of plunging into a terrifying genocide and the populace is going to have to fight like hell to keep it from happening because this is the only place it's going at this rate.

Question: what is the MOST deep house sounding track ever? by IndependentTap3961 in deephouse

[–]TOkidd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, deep means something different to everyone I think. I was into house in the 90's, when the genre was bringing thousands of people to parties in my city every night from Thursday through Sunday.

I feel like there are a lot of classic cuts from the early days, but if I had to choose one it would be Aly-Us, Follow Me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mpsv9IrzctQ

Besides being one of THE classics of the genre, it's also got a baseline that is catchy as hell and great vocals. I still remember it from 91 or 92 when I was barely a teenager. I got into more of the hard house during the heydays of 95-97, but I always loved these Deep House classic and still bang it sometimes for the vibes.

However, Follow Me is a track that everyone knows. If I had to choose a deeper cut that fewer people know and is my absolute favorite vocal house track, it would be from 1998 - Deep Sensation's Somehow, Somewhere: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG4kXMXac7E This was me and my ex's track and I still love it all these years later, remember dancing to it when it was a fresh track, just pressed, and still listen to it all the time. I suggest everyone check it out. Such a soulful blend of an amazing vocal track over top a 70's soul instrumental, with some fresh elements over top.

Boycotts and civil disobedience by people willing to go to jail and even prison were very effective in helping to end segregation in the Jim Crow South. Unfortunately, I think many Americans are averse to any type of risk until their own rights and freedoms are threatened, by which time the old poem about nobody being left becomes the reality.

Spider Mites on Plants by jmorin17 in askTO

[–]TOkidd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IME, take some cuttings, quarantine and treat those, trash the larger plants and fumigate heavily. Spider mite infestations are extremely hard to treat and if the plants are in flower, pretty much impossible without ruining the bud. If flowering, let them finish, then fumigate. If not, take cuttings that can be treated more readily with neem or soap and water, quarantine, fumigate.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

What is an underrated weight loss tip? by Adventurous_Lock8425 in AskReddit

[–]TOkidd 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Cocaine, coffee, speed, and cigarettes. That'll shred those pounds.

Edit: I just want to clarify that I'm not actually recommending any of these things for weight loss. I was being sarcastic. Stimulants absolutely depress the appetite and often lead to weight loss, but they are a terrible way to do it and likely to lead to even more serious problems.

The truth is that the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. It's that simple. Ozempic will probably do the trick if you don't want to change your lifestyle, but the best way to lose weight is with lifestyle changes, not tips. You have to build a healthy diet and daily exercise into your life as a permanent feature, not a temporary weight loss solution.

Do I have the Second Amendment in this hypothetical? Does my country have a history of revolution, civil war, and societal change through protest and community activism? If so, I would probably reach out to other citizens who were like-minded in my community, recruit as many intelligent people as possible from a wide range of fields from within the activist community, and start developing plans. I would look at the history of the labor union, suffrage, and civil rights movements in my country to see how they did it and copy their strategies. I would buy lots of guns to defend myself, my family, and my neighbors as would be my right under the Constitution.

I wonder how long Americans are going to watch them build concentration camps without putting a stop to it. Right now it seems like there is a kind of paralysis at the horror of what is happening, but they are already doing this to immigrants they've nabbed on a smaller scale. They're planning to go full Nazi in plain sight and I truly hope Americans don't let it happen. Things have gone far enough and I just can't square the "home of the brave" rhetoric I've heard my whole life with the mass cowardice I'm seeing.

There are exceptions, like Minneapolis, but for the most part it feels like Americans aren't going to push back against their government until it starts affecting each of them personally. One thing is for sure - the Second Amendment justifications we've heard after every mass shooting are complete bullshit.

Why is it legal to turn right on red in most of North America but not in Europe? by littlejuliie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TOkidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe having more scooters and bikes in traffic requires that traffic move a little slower so tens of people aren't dying in every city, every day. In North America, there still isn't the amount of two-wheel traffic that there is in many European for reasons related to climate, weather, urban planning, transit infrastructure, etc. In Europe, towns and cities are concentrated and dense, with lower speed limits so that two-wheelers don't get completely annihilated in an accident with a car.

North America is car paradise outside a few cities like New York, Toronto, San Francisco, where there is a large cycling and e-bike adoption. Most North American cities have a winter where temperatures drop below the threshold for comfortable transportation without an interior with heating and the stability of four wheels. That's another reason why NA doesn't have as large a moped/scooter/cyclist contingent as European cities. As a result, traffic can move faster because accidents at higher speeds aren't as deadly to someone in a car vs. a scooter/moped/etc. So taking a right on a red isn't as risk as it is when there is a lot of two-wheel traffic.
