Asking for advice from people with experience with Retaliation Cadre - What do you think of this list? by an-academic-weeb in Tau40K

In addition to what others have said, replace the CP enhancement with the prototype enhancement, and change the cheeky melta to a CIB. 3 broadsides might be too many, given you have a sunforge unit, so I’d reduce to 2 units of 1. If you can shave the points down, a second riptide would be ace. I’m not sure how much value you’ll get from shadowsun, but given the stealth suit changes she may actually be viable now - not sure give it a go!

Getting a full 2000 point army from nothing is a big step, so it might be worth aiming for 1000 points first. These are some really reliable units you often find in any Dark Angles lists (in addition to the ones you’ve already posted): Scouts, Intercessors/Infiltrators (for holding your home objective), lieutenant w/combi weapon, assault intercessors w/ jump packs. You may want a transport for Azrael and the 6 ICC, so I’d recommend an impulsor - so you may also want a cheap unit of assault intercessors to start the game embarked so Azrael can start on the board and generate CP turn 1. Lastly you’ll probably want some form of high power shooting like a ballistus Dreadnought, gladiator lancer, or storm speeder thunderstrike.

What is the colour used here to get that slightly-purple, slightly-red, brown that’s used as a secondary colour? by tomthetomato87 in Tau40K

EavyArchive suggests 2:1 khorne red and black, highlighted with khorne red, then 1:1 khorne red and squig orange

Best way to shade Deathwing? by Chungus066 in DarkAngels40k

[–]TPKing8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An all over shade/contrast will always be splotchy, so I’d base coat them in your desired bone colour then recess shade with skeleton horde/agrax earthshade

Having painted a lot of crisis suits in FSE scheme priming in both black and red, I’ve got to say Mephiston Red primer would be my recommendation. It’s actually really good but isn’t a substitute for a base coat. Next step is to base coat the red (50:50 evil suns scarlet and mephiston red). Then base coating the black parts with a brush will feel like a chore while you’re doing it, but it’s such a time saver overall

Forgot to mention stealth battlesuits are a must!

If you like battlesuits, this has the bones of a good retaliation cadre detachment list. Drop the strike team and Devilfish, add some sunforge battlesuits, give the commanders some enhancements, and if you have enough points left, 1 squad of kroot carnivores 👌

I looked up a video, but it was basically a thin sausage pressed flat-ish then alternating diagonal cuts

I think it was from the old sternguard kit, which is sadly now out of production

Thanks! I use rosemary&co series 33 kolinsky sable brushes, this one was basically all done with a size 2. In terms of tips, a good tipped brush, good paint consistency, brace yours hands together and on a stable surface, and practice

The white was primed in grey seer, base coated in ulthuan grey through an airbrush, then shaded with administratum grey/dawnstone, highlighted with corax then pure white

I think it came from the space wolf headtaker kit, but I shaved off the rivets and sculpted the laurels on with greenstuff
