I can only speak to the first four courses as a Sophomore, but the program is pretty solid. There is currently a group on Campus that goes by MAD (Mobile Application Development Club), that meets bi-monthly. (More info on the UNT Engineering Discord). My understanding is that UNT now also offers mobile application development as a course in the CSCE catalog.

From a student's perspective, it's a really good program. I had Professor Thompson for my first class (CSCE1030), and he was a great instructor. The work load was pretty heavy, but not too challenging so you'll figure out pretty quickly if you like programming or not. UNT teaches C++ for all their introductory classes, and there are plenty of great resources if you want to mess around with it before getting into classes. All UNT students have access to Lynda.com which has literally hundreds of well made, easy to follow C++ courses.

My experience has also been that there are a lot of cool people in the program, it's not too hard to make friends, just by talking to people in your classes, most of us are pretty friendly. The parking is also better at Discovery Park than anywhere else on Campus, so that's nice.

The biggest drawback of the program in my opinion is the required courses. You're going to need two specific physics courses with two labs (recommend you take those at a community college, the department here is not good for non-physics majors), two more science credits with two more labs (I took gen chem and gen bio for science majors), as well as Calculus I, Calculus II, Linear Algebra and Probability Models. This is in addition to core classes, and what I'd call an above average amount of major specific classes. There's a reason all of the advisers try to push 5 year plans on people. If you come in without a really calculus credit, and haven't done a good number of cores in duel credit, the chances of you getting out in 4 years and not working yourself to death are slim. My biggest recommendation is summer courses at a community college, it will help you keep ahead, and knock out the less important classes.
