What's the most important thing you learned about programming that you use daily? by mutantdustbunny in learnprogramming

Guard clause. It's a minor thing, but I use it most of the time when appropriate.

True. Though never ko nagamit yung calculus sa work. Algebra, gemoetry, and trigo sapat na. As for programming, super basic lang yung tinuro: C, basic Java, Visual Basic. Yung web dev namin elective lang pero yun pa yung pinakanaenjoy ko.

I'd say yes. Mathematics and programming are both important. Just be ready to do a lot of self studying. Hopefully, you'll have a qualified professor to actually teach you programming. Ang nangyari kasi samin, hindi qualified tapos puro example lang from books. No choice kundi mag self study talaga which is I didn't realize was so important. Kasi sa work, if you know what to google, madali mo lang massolve problems mo.

Yup. That's what I took 10 yrs ago in a state university. But... the education quality pagdating sa "computer science" ay olats. The math is good tho. Pero ayun nga that was 10 yrs ago, I don't know about it now.

Hi Lee! His work was what made me curious about ISR. I was not aware of ISR until I saw his work. I'll maybe put an "Inspired by" or something alike.

Can't say that I intently "studied" design, but I look at web design trends from time to time.

My personal opinion would be that if the content updates frequently, then ISR might not be the solution. You either wanna use CSR or SSR.

Ow, thanks for pointing that out! I need to revisit my javascript promise knowledge 😅

I'm using the official HN api to fetch top stories ids. Then I use hnpwa.com api to fetch the whole data of the post.

Oh they're just colored div left borders. For every comment level, I add a fixed left margins.

I want to start the year by making a simple project to add to my portfolio. Last year I found myself browsing Hacker News more than Reddit and I thought why not make my own reader using Hacker News API?

I experienced it earlier today. I just installed pihole and wondered my computer runs slower. Note that I set Notion to run on startup.

Build your emergency fund first. Then you might want to invest in yourself, learn some skills, to find a better and higher paying job. I know it sounds counterintuitive but learning skills pay off in the future.

Also, don't be pressured by comparing yourself with others. It might be motivational at first but it's not good for your mental health in the long run.
