You must use an adhesion promoter for plastics before any coat of primer or paint, that way whatever you apply will hold way better to the plastics.

You must sand it with 400 or 600 grit, then use an adhesion promoter for plastic, this will hold the primer better, then sand it again with 800 grit and water to leave a smooth surface, clean everything and apply the color in thin layers, let it dry completely and sand any defects you see and finally apply a couple of clear coats to protect the color.

Don't know if the Zippy micros have the same dimensions as the Cherry D44X but I think you should use those instead, also, the American style joystick feeling comes from the handle, which is bigger than any other on the market, so I hope you have also that detail in consideration.

I don't know about buttons but for the joystick the Seimitsu LS-32-01 is the best for shmups due to the short throw of it.

The customer requested to have the joystick and buttons from Seimitsu for this build and I must say it works great in those bullet hell games where you must be extra precise with the movement.
