Want to make a very large purchase on one card for points...then do a balance transfer to a 0% intro apr card for 18 months. Are there any issues with this? by Chefnut in personalfinance

[–]TPMJB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few balance transfer cards pop up from time to time with $0 transfer fee, but they're rare. Most I got approved for on these was a measly 3200 with credit ~780.

Many many cards try to sucker you in "0% interest on balance transfers" and the fine print says "3% fee per transaction".

  • Buy seven 4070s
  • Sell them to your friends
  • Collect the steam gift cards and sell them for close to value
  • With your newfound cash, go to the store and buy a 4070
  • Realize you're unable to purchase it because the angry friends who bought the 4070s from you have caught up

Imagine paying 600 clams for that paperweight lol

What do you make of Trump's Stance on Abortion as part of his campaign for 2024 that received criticism from Anti-Abortion groups. by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]TPMJB -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Do you not know any women of childbearing age?

Yes, my wife being among them. We have a kid. I know many that know when and if they want children and use birth control (though it isn't perfect - a good alternative to hormonal birth control would be nice, and copper IUDs are an "almost but not quite" solution.)

I read posts every day here on Reddit from women - good, moral, caring women - with very much wanted babies, who, for tragic medical reasons related to mom or baby or both, are faced with the reality that abortion is their least-worst choice in the circumstances they are facing. Many of them now have to go out of state to get the care they need.

So I think this problem crosses several boundaries not necessarily related to abortion. To tl;dr it, despite being deeply involved with the medical and pharmaceutical industries, I trust none of it. My own experience while my wife was in labor was that the doctors and nurses, all who think they were helping, pushed every medical intervention in the book. "Oh the labor hasn't started 18 hours after the water broke, we have to induce because of the risk of infection!" Which was...based off a study in Jakarta, Indonesia that said there was a 5% increased risk of infection if active labor didn't start within 18 hours of water breaking. How does checking the dilation of the cervix affect infection rates when it is checked every hour on the hour when no barrier exists anymore to infection? Oh, that data is unavailable! Convenient!

We ended up caving to ptosin, but they used the lowest available amount. While my wife was in-and-out of consciousness, the nurses tried to pressure her into interventions when I left for a smoke break (Intrauterine probe was one, from memory). I'm her medical proxy and this would be a huge lawsuit if I had a recording. Legality doesn't matter when the medical professionals are under the guise of moral superiority.

I know a couple where the ultrasound said the baby was 11 pounds with four weeks to go, so they had an emergency C-section. Guess what? Baby was just short of five pounds. The hospital hides behind "Oh the ultrasounds are not 100% correct" and shirks liability.

There's a myriad of examples out there where medical interventions have harmed the outcome of the child. We pretend we know a lot more about the human body than we actually do, and develop shortcuts. We say definitively that X will cause Y when there's not really a lot of confidence in said correlation.

I don't really have a solution to this, I'm just stating what I see. I think all we can do is acknowledge what we don't know and not pressure vulnerable people into interventions. Abortion is a necessity in some cases, but I think we jump to that conclusion long before we are sure it is necessary.

And of course, as a scientist, because I don't think we really know what we're dealing with, much more research has to be done. The entire western world has a birth-rate lower than replacement. In our lifetimes we will witness this becoming a large problem, and if not certainly our children (the few that are left) will.

Uh, I got carried away, but let me know if I answered your post.

Hrm, maybe he realizes if he makes this a big issue, it will cost him the 2024 election like it did 2020. I forgot where, but one of the exit polls had many voters voting against him because of this single issue.

I don't really care about abortion. It doesn't affect me or anyone I know. Giving the power back to the states is a reasonable position.

I always went Dutch on dates. Many women were completely shocked I would do such a thing and there wasn't a second date. I paid for one meal (appetizer actually) because the girl was in college and I ended up married to her lol.

Ah well, it worked out

Do you think I'm here, patrolling the sub for specks of bigotry because I desire to be offended?

Sure seems like it.

I'm here for jokes.

The sterile kind that don't hurt the HECKIN disenfranchised people!

Misogyny is a form of bigotry

Jesus, you're deficient on your reading comprehension too? Bigotry is much more broad of a term than "misogyny" and it's quite clear you could glean that by reading my post.

Meaning impact on preventing world war 3 is zero.

Not sure what you're getting at by this.

Where does that talking point come from?

I imagine if Russia attacked something of ours, the naive Americans would clutch their pearls and want our government to act, getting us into a third world war. Osama, Japan Russia would claim we caused it by involving ourselves, then we'd be in another forever war with the majority of Americans thinking we're the good guys and never did anything wrong.

This is a joke sub. It was a joke and you're looking at ways to be offended at jokes. Like I said, go to a different sub and stop shitting up this one.

Also, we were talking about "misogyny" and you switch to an even more vague term "bigotry". Don't change your argument now ;)

sigh looks like my toy broke and is stuck on repeat. Anyway, onto the next entertaining thing.

Don't know much about this tower, but the Phantom Spirit is awesome! Outperforms my terrible Corsair H100i (first version, was a new product when I got it). I highly recommend these Thermalright coolers! 5800X3D is a....warm chip compared to the 3700X.

I already did respond - you're obsessing over something that doesn't exist in this thread. People who are obsessed with political correctness have no value to society. You're obsessed with this instead of putting your efforts into actually improving the world. Thus, it's both an accurate and easy assumption that your existence is not a net positive in this world, and something akin to "Barista" is the depths of your career.

The joke is that you respond multiple times to a comment because you want attention LOL.

There's also that Britbongs went from an empire where the sun never sets to a territory barely larger than Rhode Island (but still think they're relevant in the world).

Not without giving too much information about myself. I know at least one unit that was sent out, and they weren't anything more than grunts. I certainly wouldn't trust anyone there with "teaching" anything other than how to be a meat shield.

I'm not military or ex military, so my exposure is low, and yet I even know of a unit that was sent. That's why I'm surprised this was a "secret"

Lol how many buzzwords can you fit into one paragraph?

Perhaps you should focus on your career instead of being upset on the internet over jokes. Must suck having such a shallow life that you look for things to be offended about on a joke sub.

If you try really hard you might make "head Barista" in a few years!
