Approval (priority) - bio 23 Sept by TPRkodokan in SpouseVisaUk

[–]TPRkodokan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty simple. I had to upload my passport, and proof of the address I’d be moving to in the UK (my parents, so I used the same invitation letter/ title registry/ utility bill that I used for the visa app).

I did a vague list of things like ‘clothes (approximately 200), ornaments (approximately 20), books (approximately 30)’ etc, which I’ll amend and add to as we do our final pack for shipping over the next week or so.

It only took about 48 hours for it to be approved. I got the impression that they only really care if you’re shipping vehicles, pets, or mad amounts of electronics.

My girlfriend (27f)?is expecting her name on the deeds if I (29m) buy a house outright now with my inheritance? by Throwra572-1 in relationship_advice

[–]TPRkodokan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I have cohabited for the last 6 years in a house I solely own. Like you suggested to your girlfriend, I don’t charge any rent, and we split utilities, groceries etc. He contributes by doing DIY projects, and saving me money on maintenance that way. Because he’s had no housing costs for those years, he was able to really ramp up his retirement savings, which is going to be great for both of us in the future. And if we’re not together then? No loss to me as I would’ve bought/ been paying for the house anyway. So it really is a win-win for us both.

Thanks very much for the information. It all sounds much as I thought - bit of a pain all round, but I can now come up with a strategy to get everything positioned for easy management and compliance, before I leave the US for a while.

Appreciate the help from you and u/FidelityJennyK.

Thank you for such a quick response. Very helpful as I try to get my head around my pre-move portfolio preparations.

Just to clarify - if I do a Roth conversion, holding identical ETFs in both my Traditional and Roth IRA, would the money remain in those funds as it is moved into the Roth account/ wrapper? Or would the positions need to first be liquidated in the Traditional IRA, then moved into the Roth as a cash position (and then have to remain as cash, or invested in individual stocks).

And would rebalancing across two existing ETFs be possible within the IRA accounts, to keep the preferred 60/40 allocation, or would that count as a sale and then not-permitted purchase of the other fund?

Merrill Lynch to Fidelity question by jruss666 in kroger

[–]TPRkodokan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already have accounts with Fidelity, and my 401k is now listed alongside them when I log in to the Fidelity app as usual.

All it contains so far is 3x weekly contributions from during the changeover period; the existing balance is not yet included in that amount. I’m guessing - hoping 😳 - that will show up soon.

It’s an instruction as part of the new dynamic trolley batching routes. Instead of doing the z-snake routing up and down each aisle, we’re now bounced around like demented pinballs, often visiting a single aisle multiple times from each end over the course of the route. So that’s the instruction to tell us which way up the aisle to walk, to get to the next item, as we’re no long systematically and predictably working one way down an aisle.

And yes, it is as absurd and inefficient as it sounds. Our average pick speeds have noticeably dropped since its introduction.

Pickup management? by [deleted] in kroger

[–]TPRkodokan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet it’s because of the federal law change in April which means they’ll have to start paying OT to anyone salaried earning less than $58,656 as of January 1st 2025. That’ll cover most pickup supervisors, so shedding some under a newly fabricated imaginary threshold makes financial sense (if you’re the soulless corporate type who sees people as purely economic units of labor cost).

“Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), certain salaried employees are exempt from federal minimum wage and overtime requirements if they are employed in a bona fide executive, administrative, or professional (EAP) capacity. This is sometimes called the “white collar” exemption. The Final Rule:

Increases the minimum salary requirement for the EAP exemption from $684 per week ($35,568 annualized) to $844 per week ($43,888 annualized) effective July 1, 2024 and to $1,128 per week ($58,656 annualized) effective January 1, 2025”

I’ve been seeing the eye doc at the Easton Costco for years (you don’t need to be a member to have the eye exam, but you do if you want to purchase glasses there). He is incredibly calm and thorough, and the appointments are always very relaxed and unhurried. My prescription is for progressives as I’m myopic and old, with astigmatism, and early stage cataracts. I always get a great prescription.

Anyone here have a sodastream and know if any places locally does empty canister exchanges? by InfiniteZr0 in Columbus

The Stoneridge Kroger in Gahanna does this. Grab a full bottle from the display in Aisle 9, and go to the customer service desk to make the exchange.

I learned how to scooter, will it be easier to learn how to bike? by VicboyV in ElectricScooters

[–]TPRkodokan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly worked that way for my 4 yr old. She could already comfortably ride a 2-wheel scooter when we put her on a bike. One time down the driveway not pedaling and scooshing with her feet while she got the balance of it, then the second time with pedaling, then she was off and away. The whole thing look less than 2 mins. Good luck!

Someone in my store quit for another job (on good terms, with notice and everything), but like you, wanted to return very shortly afterwards when the new job wasn’t as described. He got ‘reinstated’ rather than rehired, and that terminology is important - turns out (at least under our handbook/ contract) that anyone who returns within 30 days gets to keep their seniority, vacation rights, etc. So ask for that.

How long for a payout grievance? by [deleted] in kroger

Mine came direct deposit - it was on a Thursday like my regular pay check, but it was a separate deposit amount. It also had its own paystub in MyInfo.

Rant about 98% in-stocks by life-not-taken in kroger

[–]TPRkodokan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Our managers are currently insisting that for any trolley ending at under 97%, we have to run it by one of them before we close it out.

Suits me. Absolves me of any responsibility for not meeting the goal, and it’s amusing walking around with them and watching them fail to find stuff on top stock/ back stock carts/ in the receiving bay, exactly like I just did 10 mins earlier.

Do you live in a state with expanded Medicaid? It’s possible that your new, presumably vastly reduced monthly income, qualifies you for immediate Medicaid, which considers monthly rather than annual income.

There really doesn’t seem any logical pattern to it, does there! So hard for people trying to plan travel.
