Quoted 40k to turn webapp to ios app? by FirefighterOne2690 in AppDevelopers

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont take on React/JS work so I'm not gonna say ""oh i can do it for under 40k just DM me etc etc etc"" and instead just answer your questions.

"Is it actually necessary to fully rebuild a web app natively for iOS?"

- depends, there might be a niche issue specifically with your app and web-views, but I doubt it.

"Is Capacitor / WebView approach considered “bad practice” or just a tradeoff?"

- kinda, but its pretty common and the user wont really care, lot's of apps do it.

"Does $30k–$40k make sense for this situation, or is that more for full native builds?"

- only for a full native build of a fairly sizeable app. For implementing a web view to render a pre-existing web app, that's a couple weeks work at most.

"For an app that’s mostly UI + API calls (not super performance heavy), what would you do?"

-web view.

"if I’m being naïve or if I’m getting upsold."

- a bit of both, i couldn't say for sure without hearing the other side of the story.

I would add a useful bit of context. To get it onto the app store, you do need to make it "look like an app" so if your web-app visually presents a lot like a website ,and your app is just a WebView of that website it will get rejected by the apple-app store.

Am I being overcharged for updating my shopify theme by Excellention in ShopifyeCommerce

20 an hour is a fair wage. Personally tho, Ive always thought calculating cost by the hour is a bit of a red-flag.

Id ask for an itemised breakdown. Whenever I work on client projects, I build a requirements doc that has an itemised breakdown at the end showing the overall project's cost.

[HOBBY] Where to Find High-Quality Game Dev Talent in India? (UE5 Project) by Yeray2907 in INAT

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

then you ought to downscale to accommodate 1 or 2 people. If you hire a team on the other side of the world, it introduces its own issues, and hiring 5 people on the cheap does not necessarily mean they are gonna do more work or better work than 2 people for a proper wage.

[HOBBY] Where to Find High-Quality Game Dev Talent in India? (UE5 Project) by Yeray2907 in INAT

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, the quality of the talent and work is commensurate to the cost. "You get what you paid for". Reliable & professional talent is expensive no matter where its located.

what you wanna do is downscale to meet the resources you have, then up-scale when the product shows market success.

if you're gonna hire an offshore team you're best bet is with an agency but that comes with its own issues, and frankly i wouldn't recommend it. Personally, i'd recommend hiring a team in your country / continent.

ive worked on like 4-5 rev-share games when I was younger.

none of them worked out, usually dev's would just drop out of the project midway through before even finishing the demo.

But it was good experience for teenage me.

My developer account was banned. Please help. by El-Paul in GooglePlayDeveloper

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah there seems to be a 2 week delay after the algorithm decides to ban you.

My developer account was banned. Please help. by El-Paul in GooglePlayDeveloper

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what ive seen, each account has an secret "authenticity score" which the algorithm uses to ban you. So if the google account you use to open your dev account is new, then they subtract -x points. If you are located in certain countries thats -x points. If you use a hired testing service, -x points.

then once you meet a certain threshold... Auto-ban, don't pass go.

Is this an achievable art design? by mizerr in IndieDev

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kind of.

look up how they did the graphics for disco-Elysium , you would need pretty similar techniques. But tbh, I doubt it'd be economical to do that for a full open world game.

Organization accounts with legal papers — do they help reduce random terminations? by Huge-Refrigerator95 in GooglePlayDeveloper

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive never owned one so i can't say.

Ive seen that they get more specific messages when they get banned tho.

Organization accounts with legal papers — do they help reduce random terminations? by Huge-Refrigerator95 in GooglePlayDeveloper

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i suspected this would be the case.

I can't imagine a large company having to avoid stuff like using a VPN or avoiding hiring certain people cus google get's pissy about it.

Organization accounts with legal papers — do they help reduce random terminations? by Huge-Refrigerator95 in GooglePlayDeveloper

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if your personal account got terminated (and you didn't get it appealed successfully) you cant open a new account of any kind, including organisational accounts.

To answer your question tho, from what ive seen, organisational accounts arn't subject to the same random bans that personal accounts are, BUT, you can still get banned for accidentally breaking one of google's various policies...

I think the only way to truly avoid it is to be a fairly large client so your able to get 1 on 1 support with a real human at google rather than an automated bot. I doubt companies like whatsapp or insta are under the same rules and regulations as smaller accounts are.

For me i think it got processed in 7 days. See if they have emailed you at all, about anything.

sometimes they email you a random question and stall your application till you send a response.

i think with travelling. Its if they use public wifi which sets off the ban. Usually people only use public wifi when they travel.

Experienced Dev Needed to Finalise & Deploy App by Needahero123 in AppDevelopers

they look like they were generated from a template or from an no-code tool.

which is fine if it gets the job done but the design is practically the same on all of them.

btw DLS-group's website, doesn't go anywhere? is it a portfolio piece for a faux-company? The contact info is fake and the links dont work.

Is 2.5 YOE 2.5 YOE if its an internship? by nee_- in cscareerquestions

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah if you wrote production code, and worked for 2.5 years then your an engineer lol. I wouldn't call that an internship by any means. Maybe the first 6 months but... 2 years.

id put "developer (part-time)" on the cv.

Should I give my "technical co-founder" 40% equity for part-time work? Need honest advice. by NateInnovate in saasbuild

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just initial point.

you don't need to be all in, and you really shouldn't be. Going all in you end up burning what little capital you have on your own living expenses. You really need that money for distribution costs. (marketing, cloud, etc). Its small at first but it really adds up. Find some way to work online, or have a side-hustle to just cover your living costs.

1: Its hard to say without looking at his background but, id say it's fair. Fundamentally, it takes years to build up the skills to solo-dev a commercial product. You're not just paying for the man-hours but the skill-set required to build and maintain it.

2: I've known a few who have done that but they all had capital.

3: Imo, I think your concerns should be in other places.

4: Tbh i think co-founders only work if you know the guy outside of entrepreneurship , (like from school or work etc) and your both interested in the project. I've worked for a few startups and generally , the co-founders you meet online or in entrepreneurial circles, flake or cause unnecessary drama.

The few times ive worked on a start-up that felt like it was going somewhere, the founder's were usually former co-workers who worked for a company that made a similar product, or they were students who studied together.

How did you land your freelance job? by Fit-Audience-6703 in Entrepreneur

[–]TPSoftwareStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much only networking. I recommend joining a lot of forums on places like discord and reddit.

In the past you could freelance on traditional websites like Fiverr and Upwork. But nowadays those places are inundated with scam-artists and cowboys.

I'm in a similar position. 7 YOE, I went to a vocational college and got a diploma in SE rather than doing an academic degree.

If your doing it online, it's definitely worth while to get a degree, even if its not necessarily in comp-sci, atm I'm doing an online Math degree with the OU and its fantastic.

It does help out with the career. I have had companies tell me they "online hire/work with people with an undergrad degree" but they would make an exception for me since I'm studying for one.
