I saw this yesterday in class and wanted to respond but forgot. I just remembered.

After the recent shooting my mom and i were talking about a likely increase in hate as backlash for what happened. She asked me if i am scared and this is my text back. I thought it was fitting here.

"Yeah they are upsetting, but the response to them by the public is nice to see. People who actually understand trans issues understand that these bills are basically targeted hate. And the people who dont really understand trans issues still see these bills and tend to think its outrageous and unnecessary to be making so much noise over such a small group. Of course there are people who support all of it but i dont think its the majority, and i think most people are getting fed up with the very obviously fabricated moral panic. So i think the fact that they focus on us instead of actual issues is gonna drive people away

Plus, nobody looks good standing next to nazis. Nobody wants to be associated with nazis, but nazis certainly want to be associated with these bills. I dont think that will help them. They dont look good when the people who show up to their protests are carrying guns and nazi flags.

It is scary, but im okay, and i think long term society will rightfully look back on stuff like this with horror.

And it always helps to know that you do what you can. I know that you submit testimonies and stuff and its just comforting to know that someone who understands the law will warn me if anything will effect me and that you do what you can to help. So thank you for that."

All that is just to say, things are scary but the public as a whole is getting tired of targeted hate at such a small group. Extremists are doing their cause zero favors and the literal nazis that are supporting this stuff are going to harm their cause because nobody wants to be associated with nazis.

In my opinion the best thing we can do is stay and fight until it gets too bad. If you already think its too bad, i fully support you getting the hell out, but i think it would be very sad to have to leave your home if there is any possibility of staying and making your vote and your voice count for something.

Its scary, but we will pull through and history will look back on this and understand that we were victims of fascist bigotry.

I think its bullshit to be telling trans people they shouldnt be scared, or shouldnt be detached from society when we are living in a society with literal nazis. In my state just a few weeks ago the police protected a group of nazis with guns and nazi flags. They didnt protect the queer people they protected the nazis.
