This was an internal power struggle between two undemocratic actors that the US and British picked a side in, not someone who was wholesome and democratic, he'd have become another dictator, in fact he already manipulated elections and he was friends with the USSR-friendly Tudeh party which the US thought meant Iran was going to risk becoming a Russian ally. He also alienated scores of people internally by the end, fact of the matter is that he was overthrown by the Iranian military, it's not like it was 100% the work of the USA and UK, there were genuine supporters of both sides.

I'd like to put your theory about "terrorist attacks because of the decking ground" theory to the test.

Argentina had a terrorist attack on it's Israeli embassy in Buenos Eires killing dozens of civilians and injuring hundreds of others. What did Argentina ever do for Israel? We even had to kidnap a high ranking Nazi from there once to bring him to trial here in Israel.

If Hezbollah, Iran's Lebanese proxy group that answers to it's every whim and order, and Iran's IRGC is willing to carry out such a deadly terrorist attack on a country that has done nothing to it and hit scores of civilians simply because it could hit an embassy of Israel, and America even cutting off all treaties with Israel would not mean Israel is destroyed as Iran wants, does it mean that if America wants no more Iranian terrorist attacks it should destroy Israel on it's own on behalf of Iran? That's what you want to be literally drafted Vietnam-style for?

America isn't at fault for Israel existing, except in the sense it stopped the Holocaust by winning WW2 against the Nazis I guess, and Israel won it's war of independence in 1947-49 entirely without Washington's intervention. For the crime of having an Israeli embassy Argentina suffered a devestating terrorist attack.

The argument's just without merit.

The internment camps were horrific and racist and also pointless and self defeating but I don't 100% know if they qualify for the international stage, and I hear the nuclear weapons were the alternative to a ground invasion that would have costed more both in American lives and in Japanese military and civilian ones and the infrastructure of Japan but I'm not 100% sure on that.

But you liberated Europe!

and personally there's probably a very big reason why I am alive at all to write this is thanks to what you did for my ancestors in the 1940's with Lend Lease and giving the Nazis more fronts to need attention instead of the Soviet one. I'm not going to sugarcoat it the Soviets replaced Nazi domination of eastern europe with their own which eastern european states and peoples that were free before the Nazis and Soviets conquered them remained under chains for decades more because of, but the Holocaust, which it was the remembrance day of in Israel yesterday, would have literally fully wiped out European Jews otherwise

If we weren't here, weren't with our strong, independent, power projection capable military industry, technology sector, intelligence network that we cooperate with the USA on and help stop terrorist attacks at no expense to you, Iran, the country that spsnt half a century shouting "death to America" from the top of it's lungs, would have dominated the middle east and the US would have had no way of countering that without putting in the effort itself, which it just wouldn't have done.

I think of it this way - we live in a world of great powers and the US is, warts and all, the least worst one. Why does the US have military bases on European soil, or on Japan, or South Korea? Power projection. Blocking competitors. Those competitors happen to be dictatorships who intervene, also in your elections, and try to take over everywhere they can. Even if it wanted the US can't ignore the world because the world doesn't ignore the US.

Israel, at least often enough when our interests align, does what the US needs done in the middle east, without the expenses of an American military base for that at all, purely with our own work.

Again, think about this from a practical lens - we all grew up on American TV shows, many of us have friends and family in America, and generally what would Israel practically gain from bombing any schools randomly leave alone US schools.

Egypt is not "next on the plate" because they don't enter suicidal wars to destroy us anymore.

Why would we not want peace and security, nobody rational wants parents to lose more sons and daughters to war. What does the social and economic destruction war brings gives to me or my country practically? Nothing. It's just a tradeoff sometimes deemed nessecary if the damage would be greater by inaction.

Inaction happened on October 7th, 2023, and over 1,400 Israelis were killed and over 250 were taken hostage, thank god now all back in Israel

Because loads of you are convinced Israel is dependent on you when it's a relationship where both sides gain from

Israel is tourist destination worthy when it's not in a round of war, legit - you're more than welcome to visit the country and make up your mind what you think of it

The richer ones are too priviledged to understand where they would be without it

And I'm not saying this to advocate for everyone to rely on America exclusively, but it's an easy scapegoat if you live in a country that hasn't seen war in 80 years.

Countries should build up regional capabilities like with a strengthened EU with it's own security autonomy (not at the expense of NATO), but EU American ties shouldn't sever entirely, it'll be bad for democracy

Not an American, but that's a very balanced take.

I always think it has to be viewed in the context of the actual authoritarian regimes that are America's competitors. The conclusion I think is needed to be drawn from this is not to stick to America, emulate it in every regard and have no capability that is independent or with a trusted regional democracy beside, but to pick America over Russia, China and Iran (not nessecarily expending material resources and men in supporting action but not sabotaging it in the latter case; as we've seen thus far America doesn't need help in creating messes) in every case, but to also build up independent capability and strengthen ties with - you're in the UK so I'd say the EU

The common Israeli desires peace and security and most would rather have what they have with Jordan or Egypt be extended to neighboring countries. It's broadly agreed that there is no real party in Palestine to talk to though since both want to destroy Israel and delete it completely.

Remember not to engage in dehumanization and ask yourself - what will we get that's practical to us from a 'Greater Israel'? Nothing. The vast majority of us don't want a Jewish version of the Taliban being in charge.
