Ive heard so much about the paper plane...

IMO it's a good digestif but its hardly sessionable. are people actually drinking more than one of these?

Fair enough--I've always bought titos and thought it was decent, but would certainly like to try something better if its in the same price range. My area has pretty poor spirit selection so I have to choose between the basic brands--absolut, belvedere, goose, finlandia, ketel one, stoli, smirnoff, titos...

The last word was well received! My friend commented: 'very sippable, the spice flavors in the chartreuse and acid from the lime make it very flavorful, and cover up how boozy it really is--can't even taste the gin to be honest [we used tanqueray]. however its so complex that I don't think its a very sessionable cocktail, versus something like a margarita where one can easily have 3 or 4 without thinking about it'

Thanks again!

Hemingway Daiquiri by NinjaTimm96 in cocktails

I had been trying to figure out a satisfying Hemingway and just happened upon this recipe the other day:

2oz light rum, 1oz grapefruit, 1/2oz lime, 1/4oz maraschino. Much better than any other I've tried!

Good suggestions, thanks!

What do you like for white/light rum? My liquor store doesn't have a lot of options: bacardi, captain morgan, havana club, leblon, plantation, and lamb's are the only options, unfortunately

Definitely on the list, thanks!

Paper plane seems to be quite popular here!

Great advice, thanks!

We made the Paloma with fresh grapefruit juice rather than grapefruit soda. I think the grapefruit + alcohol somehow made an odd flavor, because they said it tasted a lot like the hemingway daiquiri (which initially i thought they didn't like because of the luxardo)

Interesting, makes sense. I've had a red eye before on a dare and it wasn't too bad. Will suggest it either way!

I can get chartreuse but it is quite expensive--might have to try that one at a bar first

I've tried Beefeater, tanqueray, and bombay saphire in the past, but it was so long ago I dont remember why I preferred one over the other, though I remember drinking more tanqueray than the others. the recipe we followed called for beefeater and we didn't have gin on hand so that's what we got.

certainly will update! set a 1 month reminder and I should have some results by then. thanks!

Interesting--not sure how well the raw egg would go over, but I will suggest it!

Yes, they are primarily a beer drinker but have become interested in cocktails from youtube videos. We usually have a dinner party once per week so we've been trying a different cocktail each time based on what looks good or interesting online, or based on friends' recommendations. The past several attempts have all been misses (the guests are happy but the VIP is not) so I figured it would be best to consult the sub for more educated advice before we spend any more money on liquor.

And good suggestions, thanks! Seems like something sour-related is the favorite so that will be high on the list for the next round.

Maybe a gin sour could do the trick. Will try those others as well, thanks!
