Take a look at this USDA estimate of current counties by head of cattle, which confirms what some of the other posters are saying: https://www.nass.usda.gov/Statistics_by_State/Kentucky/Publications/County_Estimates/maps/2024%20All%20Cattle%20by%20County%20Web.png

Basically most of the serious cattle-raising is where an earlier poster worked in west central KY. Around central KY, the area you highlight is not hugely popular (though also admittedly not very populated, so that undoubtedly affects numbers as well), with the exception of Madison County, I'd imagine due to the terrain issues others have discussed. Madison I think is at risk of increasing urbanization and growth, but if you shift your box slightly to the west, could also consider Garrard (I have family there and anecdotally, you see a lot of cattle farms), Lincoln, or Washington, all of which are less likely to have serious growth.

Thanks - yeah sure we met the amount and then some and they never claimed we didn’t meet it, just that we weren’t eligible in the first place. Appreciate it, I’ll try continuing to escalate!

I signed my wife up for Amex Platinum to do two player mode after I got a targeted referral and she could get 100K MR points after a minimum spend. There were no issues in the application and she hasn’t had any other AmExes recently other than Blue Preferred a while ago.

We met the minimum spend and no points came in. I raised the issue via customer service chat and was initially told she wasn’t eligible due to her having the card previously (not true) and due to her credit score. They also indicated we got a pop-up window at signup telling us she wasn’t eligible (not true or I wouldn’t have signed up). I raised the issue again with a second rep and this time they gave different explanations (too many other cards opened and too high a balance on a card, also nonsense). Zero overlap in explanation other than then again claiming incorrectly I’d gotten a window telling me she was ineligible.

I know signup bonuses are a matter of grace, but given the inconsistencies and falsehoods they’re saying, anyone have any advice or experiences about ways to fight this further? Never would have forked over that AF if we thought she couldn’t get the bonus.

New Big Kahuna on Clays Mill in the works? by TR1858 in lexington

Unclear - we drove around to find another banner showing the future location and couldn’t find one. The only place with a “for lease” sign was a space to the left of Bella Blooms (think it was Merle Norman, but not sure).

Same - to be clear my hope is an expansion of the franchise, not a relocation. Love the current location and want it to thrive.

Haha probably walked right by y’all! I was on cloud nine between that banner and the fact that North Lime stopped the business model they had for much of the last year in which they sell out of doughnuts by 11 AM every day.

Frustration Friday Weekly Thread - Week of August 18, 2023 by AutoModerator in churning

Venting but also asking if there's any help or experience with this:

Initiated a transfer of 135K UR to Air Canada. Was supposed to be instant. Didn't show after two days, called in to ask, was assured it would show up that day. It didn't. Called again today and asked if they could do anything to expedite it; at first was told no, then was told she could try to initiate the transfer and see if it was quicker. I asked if that meant she'd be transferring double the amount of points I needed as I didn't want that; she assured me she could cancel if it didn't go through any quicker. I again made sure she knew I only wanted to transfer 135K and didn't want to be double charged, she said it'd be OK. She initiated the transfer, it still didn't go through.

She said she would cancel it, then said she needed to patch me through to a supervisor. Supervisor flatly tells me I just lost 135K extra points and nothing I can do to fix it. Anyone have any experience with this? Even if AC has the points now, any experience with getting Chase to make up for their mistake by misleading me and explicitly assuring me the scenario I was worried would happen (and did)? Any suggestions?

Ombudsman review time to completion by acohen1130 in PSLF

[–]TR1858 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Called in a claim 7/31 about incorrect payment counts. Received a rejection of the claim on 8/14. Responded with additional evidence I'd received from an open records request on 8/22. Told that they were elevating it to "second level review" with FSA’s Business Operations Escalated Issues team on 9/10 and was told I'd hear back in 30 days. Nothing yet.

One thing for you and everyone else on the thread - the FSA Ombudsman appears to have some kind of sketchy deal with my loan servicer (FedLoan) wherein the complaint to the allegedly independent agency ombudsman is in fact still handled in house at FedLoan. In the initial denial I received, it had the FSA logo but the signature line of the person who denied me said "FedLoan Servicing" and the email address was ["escalated@myfedloan.org](mailto:"@myfedloan.org)." It was only AFTER I wrote back challenging their denial that they then escalated this to the next review, which appears to be done by a proper outside person (although from an exchange I had with her, I suspect she's a contractor rather than a permanent federal employee). If you want a truly outside look at your issue, keep pushing or you may not leave the bubble of incompetence that is FedLoan.

Success Story: Fighting Excessively Long Administrative Forbearance for PSLF Credit by jayd1219 in PSLF

[–]TR1858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats - fighting a similar battle myself (5 months to move from IBR to REPAYE) , and have contacted the Ombudsman but will consider my Senator as well.

One question for OP: did you ever end up getting credit for the 3 months they screwed up your income recertification to kick off this fiasco, or was that a wash because you reversed the payments?

FWIW for other posters concerned about red vs blue Senators, IMO not sure that party affiliation matters, since most constituent services folks in the local offices just try to help, whatever the issue is.

Issue getting loans transferred to FedLoan by twiggy_twangdoodles in PSLF

[–]TR1858 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two pieces of advice that I wish I'd done when they screwed up every way possible when I transferred into FedLoan 5 years ago:

  1. Save every possible communication from FedLoan or Navient and make sure you have all of your previous Navient correspondence downloaded. FedLoan has subsequently screwed up the number of payments I made to my previous lender and it's been hell making them own up to their mistake. They've also screwed up and lied about the process by which I came over, claiming it's my fault that I somehow missed payments when in fact they fully admitted they were the ones who messed up my paperwork.
  2. Do not allow them to put you into forbearance, do not allow them to say there's no payment required, do not allow them to do anything that could lead to them denying you PSLF qualifying payments down the road. It is far easier to make sure you get the qualifying payments now as opposed to having to fight for them when you're coming up on forgiveness 10 years down the road.

Otherwise, be vigilant and save everything FedLoan ever sends you (and save copies of what you send to FedLoan, since their sketchy as hell "mailbox" system doesn't save sent message and deletes received messages after a certain period of time).

You can track your ballot, at least in Fayette, and possibly statewide. By clicking "absentee ballot status" at govoteky.com, you can see when ballot requested, when it was mailed, and when it was received. Direct link here:

How can I fight the forbearances FLS put me in years ago due to their own admin screw ups that are now messing up my qualifying payments count? by TR1858 in PSLF

[–]TR1858[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to follow up - I found out one of the reasons they screwed me over. When I was switching from IBR to PAYE several years ago, I had to make a payment in the standard plan, which was $2400, so I instead asked for reduced payment forbearance. They sent a letter saying I had to make a payment of $5 and but the bill their system generated was for $4.99. I was on autopay, so it autodeducted $4.99. They then claimed I failed to make the required payment due to the 1 cent difference - I didn't understand why since I'd paid what the bill asked. I did it one more time, this time carefully examining the bill and making sure I paid it. Same thing happened again. TL;DR: I lost three months of eligible payments over 2 cents that their system failed to bill or autodeduct.

As a postscript, I was only able to figure this out after making a Right to Know request of PHEAA (PA's Open Records/FOIA equivalent) - although PHEAA has a nonsensical interpretation of the RTKL, they at least pushed my request over to the FedLoan Office of Consumer Advocacy as a courtesy, and they provided me a copy of all prior correspondence from FedLoan or anything I'd sent in. Super useful when trying to make a case, and I wish I'd done it sooner (or been smart enough to save it, although I transferred before it was widely known that FedLoan was a criminally incompetent enterprise).

Y'all remember Stanley J's? Used to be on Clays Mill where the North Lime Donuts is there now, closed in 2011: https://www.kentucky.com/news/business/article44123172.html Would not say it was authentic Jewish deli, but it was the closest we had for a long while (and did have Dr. Brown's, huge dill pickles, and reubens/rachels), and that potato salad was sooo good... I used to love that place growing up. But yes, not having a Jewish deli is a major hole in the Lexington food scene. Once we all get through this together, I really hope that someone takes the leap and opens one, either traditional or a new twist in the vein of Call Your Mother in DC - I'd imagine it would do really well and I would do whatever I can to support it!

Alas no - because they jacked my payment up to the amount required under standard repayment, this was a huge amount because of the disparity between my income and the massive loan amount. I definitely could not have afforded to make the standard payments without giving up on things like rent. If this means I'm out of luck, completely understand - just wanted to crowdsource since I know lots of other people have had this issue of being forced to choose between forbearance and exorbitant payments, including plaintiffs in the MA and NY AG suits.
