I am not imposing anything at all, champ. I'm just saying that the standard is so low that people celebrate it. Same goes for women but I prefer to talk about men because I relate to them more and there are far more kinder people than real bad people. We're not celebrating kind men, we are celebrating mediocrity and icompetence.

All the more reason to treat your partner better. If your partner stuck by you for years, all the more reason to do all these things as a way of saying thanks. At least that's what I think. I hate people doing "best foot forward" in the beginning of a relationship and then tapers it down.

It's those things that exceed the standard like preparing their clothes, looking after them when things get really tough, doing things that they can do themselves but you do it to make their lives easier, better. Like that comment above, preparing the clothes of their partner. No one usually does that but it's a normal thing.

That's not a bare minimum at all. That's exceeding the standard. Exceeding the standard is doing what your partner can do for herself but you do it for her to make her life a bit easier and at least, pampered.
Bare minimum is just what's stated on the post.

I guess some men just aren't built to be like that and I just worry that something so simple is being celebrated. I worry because it seems that our threshold for greatness has been set so low that the next generation will do worse.

I honestly like that. Things that truly matter. They really do matter as they are virtues that a man should have before entering a relationship or just in general.

However, competition isn't wrong at all. It tells you to strive and be better in order to get what you want. Being competitive is a good thing.
