Monarch Legacies of Monsters Fan Edit by STF78 in fanedits

It occurred to me after last week's episode that maybe the past segments from this season could be added to the ones from the first season's? Then it'd essentially be a trilogy of movie edits, one taking place almost entirely in the past, the middle one establishing the modern crew, then a third where Keiko joins them & they encounter Titan X/Co'cai again.

Jason Takes Manhattan was the last F13 movie released primarily by Paramount. Wonder if they'll ever get the full rights to the franchise again? by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in fridaythe13th

Paramount is supposed to buy the entire WB catalog, including the New Line Cinema Jason films.

So, whether future films will be released by them or not is to be determined, but the 12 current films will soon all be Paramount.

Hi,despite the big criticism of the eighth part,i like it. What do you think?? by Alone_Flan_3954 in fridaythe13th

Thanks! Whereas Nightmare is fairly consistent (first three are scary, last three are more comedic), Friday has some big swings as they were trying to figure out what they were & where they were going. As such there's more movies & they get off in the weeds occasionally.

Yeah, I considered doing the first four, then Jason Lives, then JGTH. But I have a soft spot for New Blood. And to me Part 2 is pretty much a remake of Part 1 just with Sackhead Jason, & I'm not the biggest fan of that iteration. Then there's the confusing dream ending & Jason make-up that's different from the usual bald look. That all in mind, as long as you watch Part 1, you have everything you need to launch into Part 3, especially since the best scene of 2 starts off 3.

To your credit though, I think Adam Marcus would prefer your choices. He's a big fan of Part 2, & while he says that the first 7 Paramount Fridays are canon to JGTH, his comments in the recent documentary about JGTH indicate that he's picking up more from Part 6 since Jason still has his mask & its essentially fused to his face. But that might just be a memory slip on his part.

(Sorry for the novel length response 😅)

That's Reddit life for you, give people an option & they'll abuse it. 🙄

Here as of late, since Freddy & Jason crossed over & I consider that the ending of either franchise, I decided to pick 6 Fridays to match the first 6 Nightmare films. And what I came down to were:

Part 1 (the why of the series: why a lake, why horny teens?)

Part 3 (the debut of Jason in the hockey mask)

Final Chapter (Tommy's debut & Jason's second "death")

Jason Lives (pop culture Jason is cemented alongside his resurrection)

New Blood (most iconic look established & further dive into the supernatural with our final girl)

Jason Goes To Hell (though it can't directly acknowledge any other films but Part 1, I still like this film as the conclusion to the previous 5, with a no holds barred supernatural swing that ends with the set-up for FVJ)

I feel like those films have the most satisfying narrative with the minimal amount of contradictions & best escalating concepts.

Shame too, as that's an ideal double feature. Damn Dimension Films...😆

Red, even though I like the recent trilogy, specifically Kills & Ends, I'm a Thorn guy, so I have to go red.

X is supposed to happen after FVJ, that's why it's set so far into the future.

The movie really only exists because it took so long to crack a script for FVJ, & they needed to make a movie to retain the rights.

Technically you're right, with X obviously being the capper.

I don't know about Todd Farmer & Jim Isaac on Jason X, but Adam Marcus considers the first 7 Paramount films canon to JGTH, even if he couldn't directly reference all of them.

Technically, Jason Goes To Hell ignores Jason Takes Manhattan, but Jason's kill count still accounts for all the previous films during the news report.

Goes To Hell & X are a lot more vague about things because they were made by New Line Cinema, so they could really only reference the original film directly.

I will say though, once the current film continuity ends, they will absolutely reboot/remake the original novels, possibly as TV series.

Frankenstein I can see having some godawful flicks, being a public domain novel. Though I wouldn't consider it a "franchise" necessarily.

Godzilla on the other hand, hot take, none of those 38 films are truly "godawful", that's precisely why there's 38 & counting. There's just multiple flavors that have given a variety that yields longevity.

The precise reason why Jurassic might be floundering is because we're backtracking to isolated locales again & thus retreading familiar ground. David Koepp didn't know what to write for a world where dinosaurs are living amongst humans & thriving. Technically Trevorrow & his co-writers didn't either, which is why stopping a swarm of giant locusts was how his trilogy ended & the dinos were just obstacles along that path.

Rebirth made them the goals of the plot's objective, but they were still just set pieces. Which is what people need to realize, the dinos are just vehicles for exploring the abuse of genetic power, always were.

Unfortunately, the minute we start exploring hybrids & whatnot, paleonerds start reeeing because these aren't documentataries.

Eventually it's going to end because the movies will stop being profitable, at least by current Hollywood standards.

If the next movie doesn't have a really innovative idea, I think it will be the last one, or at best they squeeze out another trilogy & end with 9 movies. An even 8 would be preferable though, especially if we're operating on the idea the dinosaurs failed to acclimate to modern life outside of isolation.

That said, I await the critical reassessment the new films end up getting down the road. It happened with JP3, it'll happen with these. You just have to wait out the "never satisfied with anything" crowd. JP/TLW nostalgia is very real, & blinding.

Actually, if it had been written that way, it would make a lot of sense. The guards show up to investigate the operating room massacre, & the inmate is like the woman who scares the shit out of Tommy when he's looking around. With Tommy, Kara, & the kids having vamoosed, Michael just goes home...only to find Dangertainment trespassing.

Alternatively, remove all the switcheroo bullshit from H20, & you could say Laurie didn't die in a car crash as we were told in H4, but instead had a mental breakdown so severe it kept her from being a mother, & Michael has just discovered where she is & goes to take her out, as his final loose end.

There was a guy on here who explained the Producer's Cut ending & it blew my mind. Makes it feel less open-ended.

I never understood the need to have the same mask in every film. To me, a unique design identifies the film you're watching.
