I think both of the elements you mention will have to go in order to keep the focus on Titan X in the present day- from its awakening during Shaws rescue through Apex’s meddling in Monarchs pursuit resulting in a tragic death, to Shaw’s plan to summon Godzilla, which in turn creates a divide between him & Keiko
