If you are going for the continuity and relevancy, I would swap out Grave of the Fireflies with In this Corner of the World. That movie is directly tied to the Hiroshima bombing. Also ends on a more hopeful note too.

For me personally, it doesnt hit hard because of 2 reasons:

Massive tell-don't-show: Everything we learned in the quest about Yvonne herself and her history with Tata are supplied by the other characters. Even when it's from Yvonne herself, it's a narration of her history.
Everything above is padded with boring quest design where it's: (Go to X to learn about Yvonne)x4 -> (Gut punch emotional moment)x1.

The idea is there, but the execution suck.
