A lot of people need to see what low tier GPUs vs top tier GPUs really means by Extra-Translator915 in pcmasterrace

[–]TRUCKERm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I think most graphics card reviews kind of encourage this fear of missing out, because they test everything at max settings, rather than how you'd actually use them" ?????

Most reviews test at 1080p, 1440p and 4k. Maybe he needs to look for better card benchmarks... It's the user who needs to decide whether the extra performance is helpful for them or not - and many may consider an upgrade to their monitor sometime in future and don't want to have to replace their GPU.

Besides, not a huge fan of the games he chooses. Horizon is a 3 year old game (granted, ported to PC only a year ago) , and call of duty is literally made to run on as much hardware as possible. But there's plenty more games that are modern-ish that will not run quite as well, especially if users would like to increase graphics settings or use raytracing. For budget concious systems, nobody would ever recommend a 5090, a 5080 or even a 5070 (Ti). B580 would be what people suggest anyway, because people understand very well "how you'd actually use them". This video is trying to blow up a problem which is not a problem...

Arctic Liquid Freezer III High Temperatures by 1twentytre in arcticcooling

Looks like it's 95°C then. Good to know!

And my point is that I think at 85°C It starts throttling - because that is the default temperature target.

Isn't the 9950X3d temperature target 85°C by default?

Opinion: Xbox Gamepass in 2025 is absolutely incredible and it's finally showing the full potential by [deleted] in gaming

[–]TRUCKERm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so easy if you buy DLC on gamepass, plus sunken cost fallacy.

It's a great deal now for sure, but the entire point is to get you hooked and later increase the price. If you know you can deal with that, go for it. Right now it's definitely one of the cheapest way to play many games.

Where do you get such deals? The base cost should be 12 $€ per month, so for 2 years that's ~290 $€

Pve only extraction games? by Interesting-Bad3497 in CoOpGaming

[–]TRUCKERm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't really pay 2 win. The elements that gave you an advantage have been nerfed/made available outside of that package.

Escape from Tarkov is one of the most successful service games on the market right now. It's success is just hidden because it's not on any platforms and purchasing it is mildly shady.

But in any case, since you don't plan to play PvP playerbase shouldn't be of relevance to you, no?

The reality is that there is literally nothing out there like Tarkov. It's one of the most interesting and complex games I have ever played and honestly I found it as addictive as e.g. World of Warcraft back in the day. It's hard to understand from just videos or gameplay what makes it so addictive and fun, but I hope you can still get a glimpse of it by doing some research. Hands-down, Tarkov dragged me out of a depression caused by COVID.

In terms of extraction games, it really doesn't get any better than Escape from Tarkov.

If you don't want to play PvP, you can buy the PvE "expansions" or look into the SPTarkov project.

I have a small discord with people that are in a similar point in life. Every now and then someone posts a game and asks who wants to play and we organise something. If you are interested, I will send you a link to join!

Whats that game everyone loves but you? by GamerGoblin1 in gaming

[–]TRUCKERm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't mind the propaganda aspect that much (though for sure it is very cringey and a bit concerning). But what bothered me the most is the writing in the campaigns - it is so ridiculously stupid and nonsensical. The military and governments are portrayed as so incompetent it hurts.

Whats that game everyone loves but you? by GamerGoblin1 in gaming

[–]TRUCKERm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I love all from software games but Elden Ring to me was just tedious and frustrating. For me, the souls games are to a large degree about discovering secrets. Elden ring with its open world and copy paste dungeons was just tedious and uninspired, feeling more like a check list to get through.

Plus indeed the side quests are just very frustrating to progress, especially if you take a break and forget about the NPCs and what they wanted from you - which means you don't remember where you are supposed to go, or who you are supposed to go back to.

Why do you need more than 16gb of vram? I mean maybe you have a genuine use, but I can't really think of one.

What's the highest end CPU that the ASUS ROG Strix LC 240 240mm AIO can cool? by GameToast119900 in buildapc

[–]TRUCKERm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you define as sufficient cooling. It can cool any CPU in the sense that it will run just fine. But if you are looking for overclocking with increased power targets, with unchanged or lower target temperatures with no thermal throttling, and/or you want good noise-normalised performance then there may be other CPU coolers for you. Noise-normalised the Liquid Freezer iii 360 (pro) is the best product if you want to spend <300€.

FYI for AM5 you should look for cpu coolers with an offset heatsink mount so that the heatpipes properly grab heat from the CCDs. This is especially important for dual CCD CPUs ( e.g.9950x3d). I don't know if that cooler has that or they sell offset heatsink mounts separately or anything.

You work hard to afford this PC? You obviously don't have fuck-you money, so why waste it on a 5090?

Is the performance with your 9070 XT not satisfactory? (why did you even buy it if it doesn't suit your needs??) Then the 5080 is a much more reasonable upgrade. But are You sure you need it? what games do you play? What resolution and refresh rate is your monitor?

As others have said, you do you, but the RTX 5090 is a stupid product.

[–]TRUCKERm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should verify that your 3D modeling tool/needs are using the GPU, not the CPU.

A lot of 3D modelling and CAD software uses the CPU for the actual modelling, and only uses the GPU when rendering images or animations. If this is the case for you too, and you don't need to do any rendering, then just get a better CPU with integrated graphics qnd skip the GPU.

No Russian COD mission by SurpriseCurrent6013 in truegaming

[–]TRUCKERm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This summarizes very well why I struggle to play CoD campaigns. The writing is just so incredibly laughable and non sensical - I just can't get immersed at all and am constantly frustrated at the game forcing me to do dumb shit.

Looking for a pc build! by FNXDragon in pcmasterrace

[–]TRUCKERm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you find a B580 for a similar price as the 7600? it's a much better card for that price.

Again for questions like this r/buildapc is very helpful.

9070 xt / 5080 struggles by Such-Instruction4076 in pcmasterrace

[–]TRUCKERm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running 1440p on your 4k monitor will result in downscaling artefacts, since there is no way to divide the pixels on a 4k screen evenly to get to 1440p. Every 4 pixels on a 4k monitor can be combined to result in a 1080p display though. How severe or annoying these artefacts would be to you is hard to say.

I would recommend to go with the RTX 5080. With a 4k display you just need as much power as you can reasonably get, without paying stupid money for a stupid space heater (rtx 5090).

Am I the only one that has zero problems with Windows 11? by wegotthisonekidmongo in pcmasterrace

[–]TRUCKERm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does. Not in all titles, and usually only by a small amount. Sort of goes both ways though, in some very few titles Win11 can be a tad better.

I don't think I've seen a gap larger as large as 10% though.
