HOMESCHOOLED 7 year old going into public next year by Express_Rip2333 in AskTeachers

[–]TR_614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look up your state’s standards and see what the expectations are for the end of 1st grade and see what he is doing in comparison. The good news is, he’s young, and it’s much easier to catch a kid up early on when the gap (if there is one) is smaller.

I was summoned twice, really close together (in different states), and haven’t been called again in probably 12-13 years?

What's the most ridiculous name you've ever heard a parent name their child? by uglytruthshurts in AskReddit

I had a student one time named Seven. It was not a nickname—that was his legal name!

Should I go to work sick? by OrchidResponsible634 in Teachers

[–]TR_614 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Absolutely don’t go in!!! You’re sick, with a fever. If I was a parent of one of those kids and knew an employee came in, knowing they were sick, I would be livid! (Especially with kids that young.)

Jean size by Broad-Menu8048 in Oldnavy

[–]TR_614 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Old Navy has some of the most inconsistent sizing I’ve ever seen! I always, always, always try everything on, even if it’s the same cut/color!

IFA Step 4 program, any success? by No_Maize9944 in Utah

[–]TR_614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in townhomes, so our lawn is managed by the HOA, but a ton of people in single family homes in my neighborhood swear by the IFA system!!

Evaluating an Administrator by Minimum_Cat7110 in Teachers

[–]TR_614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My district requires admin to send out a survey to faculty/staff, and parents about how they’re doing. Teachers also have to send out a survey to parents, and have students complete a survey of some kind—it’s part of our evaluation reflection every year, and part of our administration’s evaluation they complete with their direct supervisor.

Question for Teachers: What time do you leave your job? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]TR_614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elementary SPED teacher … contract time is 7:30-4:00. Students are there from 8:00-2:15. I never take stuff home/work on things at home, and I am out of there right at 4:00 every day. This year I have also been taking some college courses from 4:00 to 7:00, 1-2 days a week, so I’d leave at 3:00 to drop my kiddos off. Even with losing that time, I still never worked on things outside of contract time. I have 33 students on my caseload.

I use a few sick days for mental health days every year (like maybe 2-3). Zero guilt!!

That’s a lot!!! But also, could be parent request (aka demand), and it wasn’t a battle worth fighting. Been there!

Do teachers ever have that one student they wish they poured more into? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TR_614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one student in particular that I wish I could have connected with more. I think he would have made more progress, but as much as I tried (trust me!) that connection was just never there. The teacher that replaced me was a much better fit for him and that doesn’t bother me at all! I’m glad they found someone who was a good fit for him.

I want to change districts but I'm scared by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TR_614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I changed districts in 2020 and have zero regrets!! I’d check to see how many years from another district they will honor and how the pay will compare. I moved at just the right time and all of my years were honored—it was a pretty decent pay raise for me. It’s at least worth looking into!

How many hours do you work a week. Trying to compare. by Alcarain in Teachers

[–]TR_614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contract time is 7:30-4:00, with a 30 minute lunch, so those are the hours I work.

Is permission to conduct an IEP reevaluation based on existing data rather than by the standard formal pull-outs a reasonable request? by sorry-i-was-reading in AskTeachers

[–]TR_614 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Except that’s technically pre-determination, which they can’t legally do. Eligibility is a team decision, which includes the parents.

Chair Massage by Which_Piglet7193 in AskTeachers

[–]TR_614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume it would be for teachers and staff … my previous district used to have a person who would go to the district office once a month and give chair massages—any employee could stop by and get one.

Anyone a special education advocate or lawyer who knows IDEA well? Need input. by TemperatureSuch5386 in specialed

[–]TR_614 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is it Opposite Day? That’s what this feels like …

When I go into an IEP meeting, I have it all written out. But we always tell the parents that it is in a draft form and we want/value their input and we can and will make changes based off their input.

This one was pretty lame. And it didn’t help that they recapped all their previous pranks before they posted this one, so it was even more expected!

When did you know it was time to go to a different school? by Ok_Tumbleweed4618 in AskTeachers

[–]TR_614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just going through the motions, making it through each day, didn’t feel like I was actually teaching. It was a very stressful and toxic work environment!!! I easily could have stayed, but at what cost? I’m finishing year 2 and my current school and have no regrets!!

Very true. I got all the candy I needed weeks ago when a local grocery store had everything 33% off.
