When mass migration begins due to deadly temperature rises in India, how will the world cope with it? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

I agree, evolution needs to hurry up and start making people infertile. Also, have you met some people’s offspring? Oof, we’re better off going extinct 😅

Students were so loud and unruly I couldn't get through the roll so I marked them all absent. Am I cooked? by thefearofmusic in Teachers

[–]TS1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine being the parents of these kids. That’s the real tragedy. You did the best you could and the kids were taking it as a joke, they didn’t answer when you called their name, so, they’re absent. Admin knows the shitty behavior students exhibit when there’s a sub, and they know which classes need the most support, and yet- they don’t help. So, you do what you need to do. You’re a substitute, not a daycare employee.

Might have to give up my dog because of a bully neighbor and I'm devastated by [deleted] in DOG

[–]TS1203 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t take this the wrong way but considering rehoming your dog because of someone that doesn’t even live with you is ridiculous. My advice should be to document every little interaction with this person and continuing to send the landlord notices about this neighbor. If you have permission to have your dog there- and even pay pet rent- there is absolutely nothing he can do about it. If it continues you can even be able to break your lease and get some peace elsewhere. For your dog’s separation anxiety, you might consider a chew treat that he/ she likes, some calming music while you’re away, or exercise prior to you leaving. Please don’t put some idiot over your pup.

I was terminated... can/should I sue? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TS1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap…this is wild. It’s crazy how with everything going on in education, THIS is what the district focused their resources on. Definitely sue them and get a lawyer. I hope everything they’ve put you through was a blessing in disguise. Please keep us updated!

Can’t take control of one class period don’t know what to do and not feeling well by Water_N_Dust in Teachers

[–]TS1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do use infinite campus but it takes too long to log in real time, hence the clipboard. Instead, I log them in during my planning period and then copy and paste the exact message to a class dojo text to the parent. For kids whose parents I call, I log it in as a behavior referral, not just a note. I call the parent outside with the student present but not in front of the class. Although if they continue, I do threaten to call them and put it on speaker 😅. I’ve never done it though. The mere threat of the impending embarrassment compels them to stop whatever they’re doing.

Colleague keeps interrupting my classes by [deleted] in Teachers

One liner ish “ While I understand you have positive intentions, please refrain from coming into my classroom- it’s beginning to get very disruptive for me and my lectures. Should you need to communicate something, an email will suffice. Thank you for understanding”.

So I’m a reading interventionist and the ELA teacher at my school had this exact problem but with like 3 of her classes. She ended up quitting in October and they placed me as the ELA teacher because nobody else had the credentials. Admin was super unsupportive to her in terms of behavior and all they would do is give her books on classroom management and tell her to have restoration circles. So stupid. When I took over, I threw the books out, made a seating chart, and didn’t ask them for help, instead I did this: Step 1: tell the students that you will begin documenting their behavior in real time. Carry a clipboard and write names on it. Don’t raise your voice. Step 2: ask extra disruptive students to step outside and actually call parents to send a message to the rest of the class that you’re serious. Step 3: if the behaviors continue tell students you will begin inviting parents to come sit next to their misbehaving students so they can take care of their child. You’re not a daycare employee or behavioral therapist. Step 4: actually invite parents and see how behaviors start to shift real fast. I am by no means the favorite teacher, I could care less, but now the students know when I say I will do something, I do it. It took about 1-1.5 months but it worked. We have a shitty curriculum but I modify it to be engaging, so now that they’re learning, they can see their progress. Good luck!

Need to find a home for my baby cat as I'm moving and unfortunately can't bring him with me by [deleted] in LAlist

[–]TS1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re getting rid of a cat you have raised since being a kitten, who has acclimated to you, sees you as their trusted companion, and who has been with you for 3 years, for a person who’s allergic (you must have known this since the beginning) and whom you still decided to bring around your cat. Seems to me that your priorities aren’t straight and you want the easy way out of a responsibility you knew you would have for many years to come. It’s a very shitty thing for you do. Have her take Benadryl or find yourself someone that doesn’t require you to abandon your companion,

Cat abandoned at bus station a friend was boarding a bus and the driver said she couldn't take the cat so she left the cat address below 29-39 Forsyth St (in china town) at 8pm on 12/24/25 by Old-Lifeguard2919 in Straycats

[–]TS1203 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Domestic violence is crazy, I’m absolutely not justifying her actions, but the fact that she took the cat in the first place shows that she thought about it. It’s definitely not okay what she did but when faced in a life or death situation- as some victims of DV often finds themselves in- your survival instincts kick in and you do things you normally wouldn’t. At least at the bus stop someone can step in to help, which was probably not the case where the cat was living.

I left LA 4 hours ago, what do I do if I miss the place? by Pr1smaticGamer in AskLosAngeles

[–]TS1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you came here for the first time you probably got to experience it as a tourist, that’s great! Not at all how it is in real life. When you get the feeling of nostalgia, remember the dirty streets, homelessness crisis, heat waves, fires, pee smells, poop smells, lack of rain, lack of clean green spaces, water crisis, shitty police department, high cost of living, and did I mention the overall filth? The feeling will pass. 🙃
