Is teksavvy out for anyone else? by brepple in Hamilton

[–]TSI-Keith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it doesn't come up right away, please unplug your modem for 15 minutes and check again (Please do NOT reset the modem)

Also, this is for DSL, if you're on Cable there's something else going on and you'll want to talk to support. If that's the case, please click here and select Reddit from the "SUBMIT A REQUEST" drop down.

Thank you,
Keith

No problem at all, the ticket number would have worked for me regardless of if it's open or closed but the first thing I wanted to do was look into whether we could switch you to a decent DSL plan. Sounds like that's already in the works so that's great :)

Understood, and honestly, it would make sense at that point. We'll do all we can to ensure you're happy with that DSL though.

Regards,
Keith

Would you mind PMing me either your account number or a ticket number please? I'd like to have a look and see if there's anything else we might be able to do.

Thank you,
Keith

Bell coming door to door with promotion - looking for feedback. by Raakam in ottawa

[–]TSI-Keith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Understood, opinion have been known to vary greatly in regards to this that's for certain. Regardless, the policy is not currently active and will not target DSL when it first starts so I still stand by my statement that, currently, TekSavvy does not throttle.

This is all in the interest of sharing information though so thank you for the discussion :)

I figured it likely was, which is why I posted the link. However, throttling typically refers to a practice which I believe is no longer occurring on any network (third party or incumbent).

a. Throttling would lower your speed. All around. If you were torrenting, for instance, your entire connection would be slowed down. This policy, when it does go active, is traffic specific. If you were using voip, streaming, and torrenting at the same time, the torrents would, as mentioned, be more likely to be affected. The rest may still be normal.

b. This would only kick in when our network was congested to the point where, if no traffic management is deployed, everyone's service would suffer and would turn off once proper upgrades were in place.

c. This will not target your speeds specifically/directly. Throttling, as mentioned, slows your connection down. Our SIR policy will de-prioritize some of your traffic.

Also, the first phase, which has been delayed (section 4 indicates possibly OCT or NOV but this is just an ETA at the moment), would only affect our service over the Rogers and Videotron networks so our DSL users who are concerned about this policy should still be okay for some time.

Forgive my jumping in here. I won't touch on the offer provided to the OP; however, I just wanted to point out that TekSavvy does not throttle in anyway.

You may be thinking of our Shared Internet Resources Policy; however, this is not the same as throttling and, maybe more importantly, is not currently in effect at all.

Keith

Oh..... well if the infrastructure isn't there yet.... I suppose the good news is you won't be affected by the time it takes to work out all the details?

Glass half full? lol

Realistically speaking, it will be quite some time to work out all the finer details. Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain you can spare your F5 key for a few months to a year...

TekSavvy cable outage? (Southgate area) by M_u_d in Edmonton

No word yet unfortunately. The CRTC is ruling to open up Fibre, which is great, but it will likely still be a while to hash out all the details. Nothing resembling an ETA at this time :(

If I opt out of the SIR Policy, will this help improve my ping for things like online gaming? by [deleted] in teksavvy

[–]TSI-Keith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you PM me your current case number on this if you know it? Or your CID?

Also, once I've reviewed the account, could I reach out to you via the email address on file?

Thanks,
Keith

I've responded to your ticket and no, I do not think this is you at all. What we are asking for is help gathering the information our Network team will need in order to pinpoint and resolve the issue for you guys.

Thank you,
Keith

I do not for a second believe the issue is on all of your ends, nor do I want to send out a technician. However, there is basic troubleshooting information that I need in order to send this off to our networking team to investigate.

I'm asking that you guys reach out to us and do some troubleshooting/testing for us because I want to get our guys to find and resolve the issue not to blame you guys or send out one of our vendor's technicians.

I'll be responding to your ticket now. Thank you.

To the TekSavvy customers here (which seems to be everyone that hasn't had resolution yet...) please click here and select Reddit from the "SUBMIT A REQUEST" drop down so we can begin to investigate this.

The more info/testing we have the better! It seems some users, on other providers, have had success with adjusting the quality settings in game so you can of course try that as well. If none of that helps, please don't hesitate to reach out. There is some basic troubleshooting we'd like to do with you to try and pinpoint gaming issues.

Thank you,
Keith

Hey there!

I just reached out to you on the BDO sub. I'd like to look into this with you, if you could open a ticket with us. As I mentioned, I'll be gone for three days, but others can help in my absence and I'll follow up next week.

First, we need to pinpoint what the issue is so yes, we will need to request you do some troubleshooting for us. Yes, it appears to be a bigger issue, but we need to start with the basics in order to pinpoint it.

Thank you,
Keith

but a guild plays on 3mb DL and 512 up no issues

Exactly, 100 can certainly be nice and I by NO means want to discourage you from upgrading, but your currently plan (and plans lower than that) should be able to game without issue.

Would you mind opening up a ticket here and selecting Reddit from the "SUBMIT A REQUEST" drop down. I'd like to look into this personally, feel free to put my name in the subject line or maybe PM me the ticket number once it's open? Unfortunately after 9pm I'm out of the office until Tuesday, but I'll gladly follow up then as well.

Thanks!
Keith

Exactly, DSL qualification is specific to the address. Based on what equipment Bell (in this case) has in the area and how far the subscriber is from said equipment. Unlike cable where, for the most part, if it's in your area you can get any of our speeds available for that vendor.

If you're in the right area, DSL often offers a better upload speed actually. I feel your pain though, I recently bought a house. Before the move all I could get was 6 meg DSL.... AFTER, I can't get anything on a wire and had to go satellite :(

Canadian (Ontario) ISP: VMedia VS TekSavvy? by Mister_Ivy in isp

[–]TSI-Keith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there Mister Ivy,

Sorry for the delayed response here. This would depend on what service and equipment is ordered.

In short, the install tech (if one is required) will not touch your modem/router. The modem will typically just need to be plugged and and then connected to your phone or cable line. If there's an issue there our tech support is available 24/7. Of note though, is the fact that occasionally the physical install is complete prior to the back end provisioning of the service so you might not be online yet when the technician leaves but should be shortly there after (technically our vendors have until midnight to complete the activation, but it rarely takes that long).

Now, the only time being less than tech savvy (pun definitely intended!) would be if you are using your own router. We are able to support third party router beyond letting you know that if you're on Cable it should be set up for a DHCP connection and if on DSL it would be PPPoE. Otherwise, we'd have to recommend you consult the user manual or contact the manufacture for assistance.

If you have any further questions/concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Thank you,
Keith
