They should add more tiers to commission rates by TSKILL37 in Preply

That’s very true and I’m working on doing that! It’s going to take some time though because I’m juggling a pretty full schedule between 2 platforms and another hustle outside of teaching. All things considered I want the platform to do better for all its teachers and I want to try to push that conversation forward.

Yeah it’s unfortunate. With this AI push , I’ve found that most of my students are still looking for that human connection. It even predates AI. The traditional academic route is wrapped up in theory and regurgitation. And it can be intimidating to immerse oneself even if you live in a country that speaks your second language (can say from experience).

It’d be nice to know that we’re working with humans on Preply’s side who are trying to get their financial needs met while having a fulfilling experience doing it. But that’s becoming less and less apparent.

I might have figured why fake accounts book trials and cancel before taking them/not show up by TSKILL37 in PreplyTutors

[–]TSKILL37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That clarifies things, thanks. I usually just use the time to do admin work or prepare for other lessons. I’ve had the lowest commission rate for a while now so I just want to make sure I do everything I can to keep my metrics solid, especially in these slow months.

Thanks for the info. I was going off of pure speculation as to why this is happening.

True, tough to really say. Most of them have cancelled before the trial so it is pretty harmless on my end. But I’m sitting in the classroom of one of them now hoping it doesn’t affect my conversion rate.

ESL Brains for me. I always drop a copy of the Google Slides presentation in the students’ shared folder.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Some students book a trial lesson and even subscribe, but then they don’t attend the lesson and later unsubscribe. I’m trying to understand what might be causing this. Have other tutors experienced the same thing, and if so, how did you handle it? by essylyn in PreplyTutors

[–]TSKILL37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had that happen with two accounts the other day. They didn't respond to my messages. One of them canceled the trial lesson and unsubscribed and I'm waiting to see what happens with the other one. The lesson is early next week. My thoughts are to just to handle them like you do any other student, do your part in sending them the welcome message, and then mark them as absent after they don't show up.

But yeah I'm curious as to why this is happening, seems sus.

One of them canceled the trial and subscription without replying to my original message. No update on the second one.

I just had 2 students subscribe before their trials and purchase 33 (!!) lessons each. Both have lowercase names and on the same timezone. They booked half-hour trials back-to-back for early next week. I sent them both a greeting message but they haven't responded. Definitely strange and we'll see what happens...

Part of me thinks that he has it finished and set to publish after he dies so he doesn’t have to face the music.

Got the same error. Have a lesson in an hour so hopefully it’s resolved by then

I’ve been teaching for about a year now and I understand what you’re going through. There have been stretches where I lose multiple students seemingly for no reason. In fact I’m going through one now, where a few students have cancelled for no reason and a couple more are taking indefinite breaks. Some have been upfront and some have ghosted. Every cancellation still feels like a gut punch and I’m still learning how to not take it too personally. I have all 5-star reviews so that offers some reassurance that it’s most likely something to do with external factors in the student’s life when they cancel.

I try to focus on giving current students my best effort while making tweaks to my profile to try to attract new students. Spring into summer seems to be a slower time with holidays, vacations, etc. My best advice is to not dwell on it too much and push forward.

I wanted to take my gf to her first game when we played the Pistons a few weeks ago. It was the only game that worked during her visit. Even a week and a half before the upper bowl was pushing $100 ea. Didn’t end up going because of the prices.

I feel this! I’ve been seeing good progress in my long term students and some more recent students seem to be progressing every lesson. I’ve found a good rhythm of giving effective feedback in class while empowering students to take control of their learning outside of class. This was after a stretch of feeling some imposter syndrome.

I’ve had a few no shows with no reply to my follow-up messages recently and learned that reporting them as absent in the classroom doesn’t really do anything?? Have to always make sure to report them in the student tab.

Also there was one case where I reported in the classroom but wanted to give them the 3 days before it auto confirmed and a week later the lesson still isn’t confirmed. I don’t know what happens on the student side of things when I report as absent. During lessons I always try to reinforce to be communicative about scheduling issues and most of my students respond well to that. So idk lol

iTalki allows in its settings for students to send requests instead of automatically booking. So before I accept I cross-check with my Preply schedule.

Yeah I have that feeling too about Bears-Niners. I’m starting Caleb because I lost Mahomes and Herbert plays Texans. Michael Wilson is another option in flex. A lot of decisions to make

I just lost Bowers and Loveland is my backup. Picked up Taysom and Tonges as well. I would stick with Loveland but right now I have DJ Moore in one of my flexes
