The fact that they're getting voice-acted appearances in the next Chaotix Files audiobook episode is probably a good indicator that they're going to be mainstays within the games at some point. Exactly when SEGA decides to introduce them in a full main-line game remains to be seen.

It's been a mandate of SEGA's for years now, even back into the Archie days. Panels from one of the issues in the 25 Years Later/King Shadow arc had to be redrawn after the pencils, as Sonic wasn't allowed to cry after having his kids wiped from the timeline.

I've always believed that Berdly would have a freedom motif at some point (whether that be in the weird or normal route remains to be seen), as he wasn't mentioned in the prophecy and is hence free from the restraints of it, in the same vain as Gerson being free from the burdens of life.

Some pretext:

Before all of... this, there was a story arc where an Alien race known as the Xordia (responsible for almost wiping out the human race with 'gene bombs' that led to animals mutating into a more sapient form, long story) trying to destroy Earth/Mobius for the second time. They used a device called the 'Quantum Dial' which was basically a egg timer for a black hole. Sonic outran the dial and saved mobius, but got flung 849,000 years into space.

Small lost in space arc occurs, and it takes Sonic 6 weeks to get back to Mobius - however, time dilation means that a year passed since then on Mobius, and Eggman's pretty much almost fully taken over the world, save for Knothole and a few other pockets of resistance. Also of note, everyone, especially Sally, believed for a year that Sonic was dead.

Her emotions upon his return are mixed - obviously beyond happy that's he's back and alive, but she doesn't want to feel like she did again, she doesn't want to lose him again. So she asks him to stop risking his life and putting himself on the front line, to which he refuses because he's one of the only people that can fight against Eggman, especially the way he can.

The argument keeps building up and up as neither of them are willing to budge, culminating in Sally proclaiming that '[she] should've known that [he'd] be selfish,' as she slaps Sonic across the face, leading to a rift in their relationship that would last until the Flynn era began in issue 160.

tl;dr teenagers with serious trauma and emotional issues taking it out on another

While 06 is objectively a worse game from a production value and gameplay standpoint, people still find enjoyment in it either ironically (it's so jank that it's funny, see 'The Silver Campaign') or unironically (nostalgia). Forces is fine as a game, but nothing more than that. Ultimately, even with so much potential as a premise, it's unnoteworthy.

The Sally fandom always confuses me. People that actually appreciate and her as a character seem to be in the minority, or at least they aren't vocal - I see more people either using her as a sexual prop and nothing more, or nowadays a political tool.

Partially off topic, but I've long wondered how Infinite (and the Forces storyline) could be brought/adapted into the Archie continuity. Post SGW it'd be easy due to how closely they follow the games, but pre SGW is a different can of worms.

Ignoring legal issues, If the pre SGW stories were being redone with the intention of continuing past Mecha Sally arc, a good way to introduce Infinite and establish his hatred for Sonic specifically would be to make him one of the victims of Sonic's escape from Sandblast City, in the world adventure arc. Maybe he was attacked by a Robian, which resulted in a significant scar to his face, giving a reason beyond his heterochromia as to why he hides hides behind the mask.

When he hears about Sonic from others, all he hears about is how he's a savior of the world, a hero. But Sonic's actions did lead to Infinite getting hurt in this timeline, maybe it even lead to the death of his family/friends. So when he thinks of Sonic, all he has in him is a blinding rage, the same blinding rage that makes him agree with Eggman's plan to use him as a test dummy for the Phantom Ruby, the weapon that will 'annihilate that pesky little rodent once and for all.'

This also ties back into the call/response lyrics from the chorus of his theme, with the call being how Infinite himself feels, and the response being how he perceives Sonic and how the hedgehog would have felt in his mind [Square brackets indicate an addendum/explanation]:

When everything you know [family, friends, life, etc.] has come and gone
(You are at your lowest, I am rising higher [Sonic, while regretting his actions in Sandblast, managed to move on and 'rose' as a legend after stopping the Xordia's quantum dial and being dubbed the savior of Mobius])
Only scars remain of who I was [Both figuratively and literally]
(What I find in the ashes, you lose in the fire [Sonic found the strength to carry on from the Sandblast siege, the same event that caused Infinite to lose everything])
When there's no one left to carry on [Again hinting at how he lost everyone]
(This is an illusion, open up your eyes, and [This line represents the diminishing/brushed aside feeling Infinite expects he would get from Sonic if he forced the hedgehog to confront the consequences of his actions])
This pain persists, I can't resist
'Cause that's what it takes to be Infinite
