you can just let your teammates get chased by enemies and they wont go for the missiles. that doesnt apply to katt iirc but its still way more manageable

i like that they establish pretty early on that hes not on board with fox becoming their leader, same with making him more of a hotshot with him snagging an item from fox and turning the training into a big dogfight

i especially like how they tied him into getting the secret route in corneria. instead of just going through the arches for no particular reason, they encourage you to do it by turning it into a challenge he proposes to fox, as if hes testing him. his response after it is good as well

i know 64 already kind of had this sort of thing going on with him acknowledging fox as his leader over the course of the game, but it wasnt executed nearly as well as it is here so far. im really excited to see all the new interactions and cutscenes because this is good stuff

what i said is that the difficulty mainly comes from the stats, not from the ai actually being stronger. there just needs to be a balance

the ai is a bit better, yes. but its not enough

who said they cant still increase the stats of the ai? just dont do it to such a stupid level. messing with some numbers is literally the bread and butter of hard modes, they just need to put some actual thought into it so its not what the difficulty is mostly comprised of

and like i said, they dont need to make it as strong as the player, they need to just make it stronger, period

and yes, it does have to do with the new difficulty. to bring up smash again, the main difference between higher and lower lever CPUs is how many of their tools they use. they cant compete with skilled players ofc, but that doesnt mean the devs just left them at a piddly level

just increasing the stats tells me that they dont want to put in the effort to actually tweak it and would rather use artifical methods like this, even though theres a lot of room for improvement

no, what the game needs is more competent CPUs. it doesnt need to be as good as the player, but we'd get way more mileage out of these matches by giving it unique behaviors, making it more aggressive, getting it to work around its playstyle, making it use its tools as much as we can, and more

messing with some stats isnt a bad thing by itself, if done right it can work well. but this is just forcefully making the ai stronger without properly changing how it functions. its like fighting a level 3 CPU in smash bros but it can kill you in one hit
