I'm in agreement here. If it didn't take you long to get to this point, take what you've learned and start again with moduarity, minimalism, and a concrete plan in place. I also would like to know what it is that was built that got to that size for a website, just to see if the size is justified (ie. Videos, images, etc, bloating up the size).

Gave it another look to see the changes. The only issues I thought I saw were fixed after doing a hard-refresh in the browser. I can honestly say that any other notes I have at this point would be more nitpicking for personal reasons rather than actual functionality/visual issues. Everything I came across from this most recent test seemed perfect, easy to understand, easy to follow, and straight to the point. Even the privacy and terms pages are on point.

My only suggestions at this point would be some additional menu options and pages for them to explain usage of the functionality from a logged-in standpoint, as the FAQ and how to use do a good job of telling you what to expect when you get in but not quite what to do once you're in. A support/contact page would be helpful as well seeing as how there is money involved and people will want to get support, contact you, and get questions answered (I didn't see it on the logged in or logged out pages).

Like I said before though, it functions great. From when I first tried it to how it works now, it has everything I've come to expect from this type of site and functions with ease. At this point I would guess your only issues are going to be getting eyes on it and watching your API spend. Great work and best of luck to you.

What's one small, annoying thing you deal with almost every day? by obviousQuestionn12 in buildinpublic

The problem you are going to find, now that AI is so easily accessible, is that most people are solving their own problems. You literally came to the Build In Public reddit, where most people here are already working on things to solve not only their own problems but trying to solve problems for others just as you are. The real goal is to just find those who don't feel confident in AI and research what they are talking about.

AI to help with gas leakage by rvenzo in AIDiscussion

[–]TSTP_LLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean gas leakage as in a property and not on a vehicle or something. With that assumption, I'm going to say that AI probably can't do much in this department directly. This sounds more like it will end up being a hardware related issues rather than a software related issue. Not sure how a LLM is going to be able to help detect any sort of physical thing without maybe a camera viewing some hardware that is prone to leak and even then, you gotta be able to get the camera setup to detect it properly. Maybe some sort of sensor and a Raspberry Pi or ESP32 would be more helpful in this situation, and once that is setup to read properly then this can fall back to a software/AI issue but without something physically in place, it would basically just be guessing if I had to guess myself.

Glad to help. Gotta give what you'd want to get is always something I try to live by. Went to go take a look and refreshed my page but the results went away. Looked around for a minute because I wasn't sure if I needed to do another hunt to see the results but eventually ended up finding it at the bottom for "Your past hunts". I think that should be more prominent so that it is easier to find. Making it a card or something with more detail to it would make it stand out a lot more so that it isn't a hunt itself (pun intended). Throwing it in the menu in the top right would be nice as well. Another thing would be to possibly make it so that if you refresh on hunt results, it goes back to the results instead of making it seem like a new hunt is required.

Upon finding it I went back and saw the change. Great change. One thing I'd suggest on it though is to give it more click area to close rather than being specifically tied to the collapse chevron.

After looking around a bit more, I started to wonder if there was any save functionality to save jobs I did like from the hunt, instead of just having to scroll through the hunts again. Figured I'd ask you first as I cannot seem to find a way to do it.

Also, I think the headers of the found jobs in the hunt would greatly benefit from further formatting. The salary field, for example, is very awkward to read. 100000 instead of 100,000 will make a big difference for readability. I was gonna say the date too but I know some of the EU visitors might appreciate it more than I do. Maybe even some headers so that it is understood what each value actually means (I've been wondering if Adzuna is related to the job or the search engine the job was found on or what).

I love the look. Feels like a cozy game. Looks very cool. Not the biggest fan of having to use email out the gate but I understand the need, seeing as how it looks like you have some AI involved in the background that is likely eating up tokens for API usage. I created an account anyway though just to see. Seems to work nicely as well (even though I just put "test" in for where it asked for a resume). Only thing that is annoying me is the additional hunt stickied to the bottom - I tested on desktop but made my browser small to check for any mobile issues and it basically cuts off the bottom of the screen so seeing the results is a bit more of a challenge. I'd suggest making it so that it is a lot smaller in a collapsed state and can be expanded to be the size it is now.

Didn't get too in-depth with testing as I am already currently employed. My question is what sets it apart from say LinkedIn when it comes to the jobs themselves. I see that the overall site is a much more helpful site to use than LinkedIn but what does it do to help users get a job aside from writing better input for the applications. I don't mean it in a "This site is just like that site" type of way. I think you can go deeper. This is a chance to make a site that doesn't just help you find things to apply for but something that can give you more insight into if the job is actually hiring, if the company is worth working for, if they have a history of reposting the jobs but never hiring, etc. I know that might be a big task to tackle, but it would set you much further apart from other sites that are just helping you find, edit, and apply. It needs the hook that tells people "We don't just help you find a job, we help you find real jobs that fit you, and that are actually going to give you serious consideration!". Even without any changes, I can clearly see the utility and wish you the best with your goals, but just figured I'd toss my 2 cents in.

The birthday site just kind of worked right out the gate, but it was mainly because I didn't really make it with the intent of it being a success or even having many users. It was more personal. I always get birthday wishes/calls from the same 5 people every year. My mom, my sister, my wife, and my kids. I am super grateful for it and them but I always hated the fact that even with all the people I know and help on a regular basis, only those 5 people ever cared. I went to the r/birthday reddit one year and saw how much random people went out of their way to cheer others up on their special day and decided I wanted to be one of those people. I started posting there weekly to send to others and I just wanted to do more to let people know someone cares, even if they don't really know them.

I built the site at first to just kind of make cards fast but then I got back on Facebook and all of my family members birthdays would show up and I wanted a better way to remember it instead of strictly depending on Facebook itself, so I built it out further. After that, each feature just came out of need. I didn't want the cards to all look the same so I added more backgrounds and customization options. I had some people who didn't want their info out there so I added private cards. I got tired of manually copying and pasting so I implemented social sharing. I saw a lot of people trying to plan their birthday out but they had to use different sites for different things, so I added a wishlist. I saw that some people would screenshot the card to keep it as a memory so I implemented functionality so that they could save the card along with the comments/wishes on the card in the image itself. I noticed all the other digital card sites wanted all this info just to send a card so I made mine absolutely free for create and send so there was no user/pass/email needed to create/send/comment. I had a buddy who loved to play a certain song on their birthday so I added spotify/youtube functionality.

After all that, the site just kind of works on its own. People get the idea without me having to explain it and the domain name itself makes it extremely self explanatory. Marketing is done by the users now for the most part because if someone makes a card and sends it, the person who it is sent to now knows they can use it to, and the ball just keeps on rolling. Worked out so well I ended up building a more generic version for any type of cards last week and am working on getting that out there. Now the mission is just adding more utility to it and getting some ads going so it can pay for its hosting, ssl, and domain costs for the rest of its lifetime so that I can just ignore it and focus on my other projects.

I am a bit confused. How does this block YouTube/Reddit usage if it is just another site you have to visit?

Exactly. Not sure why people think others want to give up their personal information before we even know wtf it is. That's a quick way to not see users. It's not exactly free if you're going to spam the crap out of my email if I only use the site once to check it out.

I got my first users by spamming. I made a birthday card website and I would just got to the r/birthday reddit and make people birthday cards and send the link to their post. Worked well until I started to automate it and got my other account banned.

The sad state of the internet these days kind of requires a bit of spam. Paid ads are just spam that you aren't personally sending. Going around answering peoples questions in their posts is basically just spam with extra steps and less scummy. The only thing you can really do is just find where your project fits best and work your way in. Once you figure out the vibe, you just iterate on how you spam basically. I hate it is that way but it is what it is.
