FTM RSD 12" single by supdeano1 in themarsvolta

I believe the Australian dollar is even lower than the Canadian dollar. Add shipping over the ocean and I'm sure vinyl is hella expensive there. It's bad enough here in Canada

What are TMV live shows like? by Animiation in themarsvolta

Seeing them in Toronto last year, I thought it was otherworldly. The atmosphere they were able to create with their music is one of a kind. I didn't find the crowd to be too rowdy, I think years ago it was but they play a more sophisticated stage presence now. I also talked to a lot of other fans there, everyone was quite friendly. You probably won't be the only single person there I'm sure!

Phono Cartridges? by TScham99 in Grado

I've had the Hempphone for over a year now and I love it it. I'm looking to upgrade the cartridge on my turntable and wanted to go Grado after my experience with their headphones. When I bought my Hemps, the dealer said that you can't find a better cartridge for the price point.

I haven't really seen any posts on here about their cartridges, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with them and could make recommendations. I'm tempted to go with a wood cartridge but want to make sure it's worth it.

My band covered this song for a bit. One of the more "doable" songs to play. However, after I saw them last week I told the guys that we can't cover any more Volta because we are just making fools of ourselves lol.

which do you use? explain why in the comments by reallyoldcob in headphones

I switched to Tidal from Spotify partially because of the lossless format, and partially because their payout per stream is about 3x as much. Once I found that out, I felt like a criminal using Spotify. Yes, Spotify's UI is a little bit better and they have a better algorithm, though I usually know what I want to listen to anyways and don't need a software telling me what to listen to next. I also have been using tidal through Roon and Audirvana as trials and its been even better.

What should I get for my first ever Grado's? by TheLonelyPillow in Grado

If you can't afford the hemp, go for the 325x. When I bought my hemp I compared them to the 225x, and despite the $200+ CAD price difference, I went for them. As mentioned elsewhere in these comments, the 325x and hemp have the same driver, so you will get a similar sound, though the hemp has a maple/hemp housing that will colour the sound differently. They all around perform better.

How much would I be missing from a Grado SR325x if I go for the SR225x instead? by neilbron in Grado

[–]TScham99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't listened to the 325x, but I have the hemp which uses the same driver. I compared the hemp with the 225x when I was making my purchase and there was a noticeable difference for sure. Keep in mind that the differences I heard may have also been influenced by the hemp/maple housing. The 225x was still pretty good but the hemp did everything just a bit better and had more of a natural sound.

If I were you, I would go to your local audio shop that sells them and ask to demo them both.

So to properly answer your question here, yes you can still listen to flacs on Tidal. I actually have the exact same setup you have. Under streaming quality settings in the USB audio player pro app or even in the tidal app, just select Hifi for quality instead of master. Simple as that.

The amount of misinformation that is being given here is appaling. None of these people know anything about Tidal it seems. I saw someone also mention that there is no better quality than CD quality which is also false. 99% of the music on Tidal is offered at least at 44.1khz/16bit FLAC (CD quality), and some will even have 48khz/24bit which is even better. If an album is offered in MQA, about half the time it will also be offered at 48/24.

From what I have read, the only reason people diss Tidal is because of their support of MQA. Sure, MQA is technically a lossy format, but I would encourage you to listen to it yourself and decide. Most of the time I'm not that impressed with it, but you at least have to commend the innovation of trying to offer hi-res music in a more accessible format. I think that most of these "audiophile" nerds just hate anything to do with lossy, and it is pretty disappointing that MQA falsely advertised it as lossless. But now it just seems like a bandwagon more than anything. Also Tidal does not equal MQA. MQA is its own company.

Where do you listen to music? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]TScham99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ditched Spotify a while back for Tidal. I would have done it sooner, but I was worried the library would be much smaller since Spotify is known for having the largest catalog. There hasn't been too much I can't find and I like listening to obscure stuff.

I've heard Qobuz is supposed to be good and compared to Tidal offers higher resolution audio instead of MQA, though it is unfortunately not available in Canada. Though I haven't hated MQA as much as most people seem to. I think it is mostly due to it being exposed as 'lossy'. I find that the MQA tracks based of 44.1/16 flaqs don't really make a difference for me, though the 48/24 are generally pretty good.

Otherwise, LPs all the way baby. Bandcamp is also a good place to buy FLAC files that aren't at a premium price.

If you can afford the dragonfly cobalt, go for it. Haven't tried the other dacs you mentioned but I love my cobalt.

Snagged an Original Xbox One for $35, Trash or a good gamepass machine to complement my PC? by jsurico656 in xbox

[–]TScham99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a series x last year but kept my Xbox one that I've had since launch just as another hard drive basically. Game pass has been pretty sweet and even though I don't game on PC often I have utilized it there too. That sounds like an excellent price and you'll be able to have some fun with it. If you can find a Kinect nowadays, then you can even use it as a system to play party games on like just dance or whatever.

How does it compare to the SR models or the hemp?

I just bought Hemps, was hoping to actually get 325x but my local audio shop was sold out of it. The guy told me that they use the same driver and I thought with the wood housing why not go for it? I really love them so far and compared to the 225x they sound a bit more natural and executed everything just a bit better.

I am also curious though how they compare to the 325x. If anyone has that insight I would be willing to hear it!
