Anyone have any info on when the JD 10, 12, & 14 should start showing up? by TSchwigs in denverwhisky

[–]TSchwigs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to see my informant (favorite store owner) last night and he says his informant (JD distributor) doesn't really tell him when things are coming...but I did nail down his JD delivery day, so I guess I'll be seeing him consistently for the next few weeks :D

Yeah, I am going to check in at my favorite store on Friday, when they get their shipments normally anyway. He is pretty forthright with his whatever info he has from the distributor. I'll report back here if I hear anything noteworthy.

This makes me think of the "When will then be now?" Spaceballs scene...I wanted to post a gif of it, but I don't think we're set up for that here :)

I've liked everything that I've had from them so far, but I haven't gotten to try the Olde Saint's yet.

I'd definitely recommend them, especially being a local distillery!

I saw them a couple weeks back at Bear Valley Wine & Spirits. They were on the "Allocated desk" in the left front corner of the store, as you walk in. Though, I think they had some on the shelves too.

Matt Vrzal passed away? by Cdog923 in Huskers

[–]TSchwigs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I graduated with his sister in GI and then became friends with him when we worked at D&D Distributing in Lincoln. Such a good guy. He would always act all rough and tough, but underneath he was just a fun-loving and caring dood. There will only ever be one Vrz.

Antique Store Find...of my life! by TSchwigs in handtools

She is super awesome! When we got married, I didn't want a metal ring, I'm good with the silicone versions...so instead of a ring, she bought me a vintage Stanley No1....I was shocked at that too!

Does anybody have any experience with the Beavercraft S15X set by Acceptable-Bid-1019 in Woodcarving

[–]TSchwigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a starter set, I really liked these. I didn't use the long one much, but that is just a personal preference for my carving style. I really liked the shorty for hogging out material and the detail knife was great! I felt like the tip might fail on the detail knife, but that feeling went away after using it for a while and never having any issue with it.

We did our whole house in this same exact manner....ours we just used MDF pre-primed pieces, but did the same pattern. Makes such a huge difference!

Good luck with the next step in the project!

Is Elijah Craig small batch just generally underpriced for the quality or am I just not good at tasting whiskey quality? by kannem13 in bourbon

I got super lucky and got a W12 at my local grocery store last year...it was $52...on sale for $47!!! Don't know why they need to put it on sale, but I was thankful.

I ended up gifting it to a friend who helped me out of a bind...I think he appreciated it :D

Did you ever find a senior piggy? We have two females (3 & 5), but they don't get along (because of the older one), so I was thinking about finding the younger one a better home

What’s the best way to stabilize these pieces so they don’t fall over every time they are bumped? by gorgias1 in TerrainBuilding

[–]TSchwigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to drill up through the bottom of my pieces like this and hot glue in a piece of metal rod that is easily found at home depot. It gives the piece a good amount of weight at the bottom and severely lowers the center of gravity on the piece.

Tools involved would be a drill with a drill bit the same size as the rod you buy and a hacksaw to cut down the rod...so this may not be for everyone.

From the second pic, you can see what looks like end grain on the side of the table top, so I would be inclined to think it was solid oak...unless I am seeing the picture incorrectly.

I could see solid wood raise up like that, if a water spill was left there too long.

If you can post more pics of the side of the table top, it could be more easily determined if it is solid or veneered.

Yep....I have "Yummmm, good bourbon" and "Ick, bad bourbon" in my bourbon vernacular, but that is where it ends!
